Hey guys I posted a thread about a gallery design problem while working on this but I am wondering what your thoughts are about the “nearly” finished site for actress Rhona Mitra. The bio isnt up yet and the section preloaders arent up…but aside from that what do you think?

i’m not really feeling it.
it’s very tutorial-ish, i’d expect much more from a professional actress.
the gallery is clearly a tutorial gallery, the contact section has a nasty layout… in fact, most of them have a nasty layout.
everything that isn’t neccesary to your design needs to be removed. i don’t mean “have only text and images” but i mean… you need to think about every piece of the site as being meaningful, and make it fit. this doesn’t fit. it just seems… unfinished?
I actually like it. Simple and to the point. I love thick black borders generally and they’re well executed.
I’d like to see you look at some of the spacing. Its a bit random in places.
1-Homepage- couldn’t the text box be wider and move the scroller to the right?
2-Gallery- Not too keen on the b/g - could also do with some more photos to make the photo nav wider…
3-Press- the gap in the middle is too big. Possible add a mask so the few pixel spacing at the top and bottom remains when you scroll the boxes.
4-Bio- is the same as press :puzzle:
5- Contact you should redesign.
6-Why all the black and white tree images?

menu is very tutorialish (agree with willofdarkness…good name by the way :thumb: )
tree images are confusing, why trees?
need a new font
kinda ok but depending on how much she’s paying for this I’d be a bit disappointed if I where her…example

uh whoa…that was a lot of information. Um thanks for the criticism. yes I know rhona, and ouch to be compared to the dominic site. Sorry but that site in my opinion is not good. The tree images are hers because its where she is from and a photographer that is her friend, and she chose the music and the dark theme. I usually dont like my work but I do like this site so far…tutorialish?..hmmm weird…ill work on that I guess. Unclesond you had some very detailed thoughts and I really appretiate it. I feel a little bashed so its nice to have that critisism there that is constructive. I invite more thoughts though guys please!

I don’t like it either, sorry…I have seen a great site for one of the hobbits in LOTR but can’t remember who…after searching for 10 mins went for this one but this wasn’t it

Anyways, I think the site is alright, it’s not as strong as it could possibly be. I like the info button effect and think that you could do more things like that throughout the site.
Revo // I like too like the simplicity and “tightness” of the site. I really love strong contrast with blacks on whites / grays, etc.
My one comment would be considering a change of the background. Instead of a circular gradient fill like you have, (to me is too distracting, and really draws your eye away from the focus of the site), TRY a med-light gray gradient wash, or a gradient wash other than the circular one you have.
Again it’s just too distracting and really draws me away from the site. Take alook at one of my favorite sites for an example.

Hey M…thanks for the words. First I really like Eccentris as well. first born is great stuff! Very original too. Second I actually agree with you about the bg a bit and had a light/slight grey solid and gradient but this is what the actress wanted so +shrug+. And yes Boon I did talk to her and she is really cool.
