Finally, PowerPC emulation on x86

http://pearpc.sf.net/

PearPC is an architecture independent PowerPC platform emulator capable of running most PowerPC operating systems.

OS’es:
[]Mandrake Linux 9.1 for PPC: Runs very well
[
]Darwin for PPC: Runs well
[]Mac OS X 10.3: Runs well with some caveats
[
]OpenBSD for PPC: Crashes while booting (accesses PCI in an unsupported way)

NetBSD for PPC: Crashes while booting
Yes, OS X

Sorry if this has already been posted, I was too excited to do a search. I just did a google search to see if there was any updates on what I’ve been trying to do for a long, long time. And there was!

It’s called PearPC:

I found a great guide here:

gets back to work

Merged threads.

Wow, it only takes like 17 hours to install. lol

It wont go for much farther i think - one of the co-writers got hit by a train…

Wow - that is so sad :frowning: The co-writer died (in case you had not heard before) after being hit by a train.

Yeah it was big on /. for a little while. It really is sad.

That sucks some big balls that he died. I guess that proves it though. PC’s > Macs.

prepares for mac addict flames

How does it prove that? :pa:
If anything, it proves that Mac > PC, since ppl have to try so hard to emulate Mac OS on a PC, when ppl have been emulating Windows on Mac OS for years! :td:

AAanyway… I installed OS 10.3 into PearPC 0.3 on my P4-2.8 w/512 RAM in about 3 hours.
It boots in about 1.5 mins and runs like WinXP on a 386 :frowning: I installed PS8, Studio MX2004, Camino, Tomato Torrent, and a whole bunch of other stuff - just out of curiosity :stuck_out_tongue:

Before PearPC, my only experience with Mac OS was an emulated installation of OS 8.1 (OLD OLD OLD!). One thing I’ve learned is that: Mac OS is good. In every way. It just feels so… polished and refined. Like someone actually went through and put the time into perfecting the OS. Really feels like a BMW. Oh, and there’s no MDI

sigh
<Switch in progess… ERROR - insufficient funds!> :frowning:

Maybe that’s because no one NEEDED to emulate a PowerPC…

ducks back behind flame wall

…dives in, drops a Flasbang grenade, and dives back out…

I don’t really see myself ever having to emulate a mac on my PC. All of the software is available for the PC, but not the other way around :stuck_out_tongue:

:ninja:

Yeah, I did the PearPC thing about a month ago… Installed in about 5 hours on my 1.3 Ghz P4. Ran really really slow, but I got a few kicks out of it.

I ended up just modding my Windows to look like OSX since the interface is so much slicker. Screenshot here if you even care.
