Flash or Director?

Hello all,

I have to do some kind of a project as a graduations yearbook for a university class.

It must contains pictures, event listing, sound files, and movies.

I’d like to do it in flash since i know my way in it, some how, and i believe i can use its power to create some cool animations for the interface.

BUT all the examples i’ve so of such products till now are all made with macromedia director.

So which one is better to use for such kind of project flash or director, and why. Another detail that the project will list the details of 400 students, minimum.

If director is the answer will the transition from flash be easy, or it would take a long time to learn director.

  • Do anybody knows a good place to select a good and “animationable” interface for such kind of a project.

Thank you

Adham :phil:

Umm… Flash, you should really learn more… not just look at examples.

Director = not good for those kinda thingys

id use flash since its easier and director is better but harder, if you know AS pretty good id say do it in flash, flash has support for all the things you need so i dont see why it would be a problem besides in flash you can have movie clips wich run independently from the main timeline this is an advantage that flash has over director since director is just one timeline, ive done multimedia projects on cdroms and the biggest one ive made so far is 20 mbs as an exe and a mac projector :beam:

Grim

i havent really used it, but if its like a CD-presentation, then Director is definetely better…

my staple diet was director, so i figure i’m slightly bias in that respect, but if it’s flash you’re experienced with i’d stick with that untill you have time to play with the other.
ideally you could create a hybrid flash/director project for the yearbook. the old rule (as far as i was concerned) was that flash was great for the animation, director was great for the control. things have changed a bit now, but it’s quite easy to control flash from director, giving you the added advantage of the flash graphics engine, directors bitmap, lingo & 3d engine, and the storage medium of whatever you’re using.

One more vote for Director… No offence, but, if you do not have more than whole 3 months to learn Director, do not attempt to do it unless you are really good at picking up things… Even though Flash and Director share similar methodology to produce final product, these two are pretty much different in terms of how script behaves and how other mediums are handled… Just my opinion… :bandit:

Yeh CyanBlue is right.

Director will make you dizzy when you first look at it!
But I would still go with FLash

It all depends on how you design the project… But I am not sure if Flash can easily handle that much of data… adham_a mentioned the data of 400 students and that sounds pretty heavy to me… Yes… If the end user have good computer, it won’t be too much noticible, but I am not so sure about that…

Director = not good for those kinda thingys
Howdy, Mike… Please don’t think that I am attacking you or sort… I am just curious why you have said that… I have been using since Director 4 and till Director 8.51, and I think that would be a great candidate for Director… I haven’t used Director more than 2 years, shame on me, and if I were to do the project myself, I wouldn’t hesitate to use Director… Any reason why you have said that??? Like I have said already, I am just curious… =)

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Well the application is definitely a multimedia CD where i see that most of you have recommended Director.

Now, Do anyone knows some good tuts or examples to learn Director.

Thanks again

You could start from here… Good luck… :rambo:
