Not sure where to put this query regarding the download and install of Flash Player. It appears that all you can do is install the Flash browser plugin, that the only way to get a standalone Flash player is to install a full version of Flash. Is that correct?
We develop interactive courtroom exhibits in Flash and our clients (law firms) are picky about installing software. That part I get. But we want them to be able to play .swf’s (as opposed to .exe’s) for a couple of very good reasons.
So it’s my job to facilitate an easy, straightforward means of installing a standalone Flash player. But when I go online to download/install, it seems I’m only installing the browser plugin. the reason I say this is that if you do that and install, then click on a local .swf file, on the pc side it offers a choice of picking an app from a list and the Flash player is not on that list.
We’ve decided to try sending a copy of Flash player that doesn’t need to be installed, only copied, but the user then has to point a .swf to that player to activate it. But that isn’t as seamless as I would like, considering the number of computer-phobic people still out there.
If anyone can enlighten me or tell me what I’m not getting, or how to install a standalone player that then works without extra steps, I would be happy to hear about it.
