For football (soccer) fans, how is US # 6?

last night I saw US vs Trinidad/Tobago - my first live soccer game. Recently I saw that on fifa.com world rankings they rank #6 in the world and after watching the game, I don’t get how they are ranked this high. How can they rank better than Italy, England plus many other great teams ??? one of my friends said, it’s Coca-Cola rankings and they take even friendly matches into account, but that still doesn’t make sense. I haven’t seen the US team beat any of the big european teams in like over 10 years so how can they rank that high ??? i think the fifa rankings are BS
