Glooooow

Hi guys :thumb:

I am making my website and i want my toolbars to flash a colour (glow) round the edges at the begining of the website load up. I have it all set out and i decided to use a gaussian blur on a rounded block of colour round the toolbars but it looks really really poor.

What i am going to do is extract the glow to a pic on it’s own and aplha it in flash but i cant do it if the glow looks cheap. Is their any better ways of making glow’s rather than using gaussian blur,Inner glow, Outer glow layer settings?

Sorry if the content of this post is all weird  :thumb:

u could “stroke” it

edit/stroke in photoshop

i never actually used stroke what does it do?

Hmm…how will adding a stroke create a glow effect?

Visualaid, I use the outerglow effect all the time and it works fine, you just have to play around with it’s settings.

Other than those ways you posted, the only other option is to use a 3D program to create a glow, but that’s a lot of unnecessary work.

i’ll play around with some drop shadow and other effects after i tried the outer glow  just was wondering which would look the best.

Also is their a trace function in illustrator to go round edges of images because i cant draw round the edges accuratly with the pen tool.

Not that I’m aware of, I use Illustrator a lot.

flash has a trace bitmap command, but that doesn’t really outline, it actually makes a vector image from your pic… which might be appropriate if you’ve drawn a logo or something, dunno

there is a filter that I use for some killer glows made by flaming pear called glare…Plain awesome… BUt it does rasterize the image

If what u want to make ‘glow’ is a vector then just goto outline stroke in illustrator give it about 4 pixels and make this white with about 50% transparency. You could give it more steps or perhaps a gradient fill to make it smoother if u needed to.
