Grammar Pet Peeve!

Ok, I’ve been a member here since last February, and I’ve read A LOT of posts. The thing I can’t figure out is why so many people use “of” instead of “have” in certain places

ie.

“I should of done such and such such”

should be:

“I should *have *done such and such”

I know it sounds like nit-picking but I’ve seen it like 50+ times misused…and it drives me nuts…

ok, my rant is done

My pet Grammar pet peeve is this…

“I’m not doing nothing” Grr… Should be “I’m not doing Anything” =) cause you cant not do nothing, cause nothing = Not something, so saying im Not doing nothing is like saying “I’m not not doing something” which is a double negitive which means you ARE doing something lol =)

ok im done =)

its not it’s and vice versa

plurals that end in s kids’

too and to

whose and who’s aswell

At least the forum isn’t full of people speaking “l33t,” that would be annoying.

I agree with the “of”/“have” thing. Very annoying. Also, “gonna”, “coulda”, “shoulda”, “woulda”, “wanna”, etc. Oh! And “whatcha”/“whatchya”/“whatchoo”, as in “Whatchoo doin’?” My boyfriend does that all the time. I can live with that in moderation, I suppose. But then he goes and does “Whenchoo wanna go out?” and even worse “choo busy?” :h: I mean, the whole premise behind this is that “whatchoo”/“choo” = “what are you”, isn’t it? So he’s saying “what are you busy”, which doesn’t make any sense. He could have at least wrote “you busy?” and saved himself a letter. People are strange.

I knows i shouldnt of got involved but i dont think noone is gonna listen too this thread and change there ways. But whose going to listen to me?
