most of my experience is in dreamweaver and that is what i used when i built a site for use on the intranet here at the air force base. not until i was done and ready to put on the web server (controlled by another group) did i discover:
- ftp not allowed — blocked for security reasons
- mapping a network connection not allowed — same reason
- i can not be given the full control rights i need on the iis server — only on the web folder itself.
- thus the only way to upload changed pages is via frontpage…to the http address.
issues? (some may or may not be related, but they have manifested themselves since i have been attempting to use both editors together)
- suddenly i have weirdness in my (local) dreamweaver files
- image maps have disappeared (i checked both places that control those views. the code is still there…but not the hot spots or image maps in design view. (sorry. i need wysiwyg!)
- some pages (again in design view only) have lost the graphic and are exhibiting tag errors that don’t make sense. usually /p errors. sometimes only one. sometimes many. i use tables a lot; the tables are still there…but the content does not show.
- in frontpage (looking at the files on the server) some do not show graphics (e.g. a floorplan.gif) in “design” view but look fine in preview.
- to edit with dreamweaver (my preference) i have to save the page…open windows explorer…copy… switch to frontpage and paste into the folder…and i can only successfully do one at a time…and sometime THAT needs re-copy/pasting to “stick.”
are there fundamental reasons these two can’t work together?
has anyone seen any of these issues exhibited in dreamweaver before? i REALLY miss simple editing (locally and safely) then pushing the file to the server. any ideas?
lastly…i was REALLY excited to run across your site. i can’t wait to dig through the flash tutorials.
thanks in advance.
