If anyone can help me? I just made my first web page in flash and when I put it through my dreamweaver I could not belive the file size. Each of the movies are published in .swf format but they are huge files. One alone is 14 mb! It does not even have that many things in it. I was wondering if anyone can help me reduce the size of the movies. What am I doing wrong?

There are not so many tweens but there are some symbol movies. Does this play a big part in it? Also, how did you make your crosshairs in your reply? You know, the cool picture with the planets. I have been looking for a good crosshair tutorial all over.
Concerning the crosshair, look at the custom cursor tutorial, it should help. And concerning your movie, can you tell us more? Did you put pictures? Sounds? Anything else that could take a lot of space?
Also, try to save your file under a new name.

First when u export your movie click the report button this will tell u the sizes of all the things in your movie. Try to compress the big files manully.
Second ive seen this but not yet shore how to do it is every flash page loads itself with its own preloader, but im not sure how that works
Third everything in your movie is in the swf file. that means any old music thats still in your movie that your not using is getting put in the swf aswell, this counts with pictures that u may have traced to.
Fourth try to compress any music in your page manully in any good music editing program. also its better to have a 20 second loop of music than a full song.
ive learnt all this from experiance cause my movies used to be huge as well. i hope i helped (which i probably didnt )

Thank you everyone! you have all been helpful. I know it is hard because I am really bad at describing the movie so here is a copy of a movie before anything has been added to it. At the most I will add a picture gallery and also some animation to the words. This one is still under 1mb. But after everything else gets added to it, it comes out big. Also for my homemade drop down menu at the bottom, does anyone know why my buttons over the words make them disapear? for example under “entertainment” If I move my mouse to polynesian shows the bar disapears before I can even click on the button. None of the links work yet but, Sorry to bother you all again,

I just generated the size report and the frames where my picture came in was huge. Do you have to resize the picture before importing from flash? Is that why it is so big?
Guahhhhh!!! It was those pictures!!! They were huge files. Darn it! I feel so stupid. But thanks to everyone for helping a foolish fellow like myself. And thanks to lachy for that size report tip. You are a genius!!! Now before I shoot my self for being stupid. Any other tips you guys may have on reducing the size or my button problem would be most helpful.
