ya, but i wasn’t saying that every site had to be flash. just that i prefer the direction, creativity, interactivity and general awesomeness of a website that is worthy of fwa appreciation.
sites like this one are just bland exercises in html coding. not design. not kool.
just my opinion. take it, leave it, suck it, whatever ;)
Designing for the FWA is just jacking off to your design. Harsh but true, design is about solving communication problems and serving content in a useful manner to users. Users don’t give a rats *** if you have the latest flash technique or some absurd and odd way of laying out your typography. They want some thing that gets out of their way and lets them do what they want while still looking good. I think this site accomplishes that.
And that guy is user interface designer. uh ohh,
You do realize user interface designers do application design? Like Facebook or Gmail, etc. If those applications tried to adopt some fancy effects or over the top layout they wouldn’t work. This guy’s site seems like something a user interface designer would make. It’s super easy to get what you want (content) and still looks good. Not one thing gets in your way. The +'s are kinda bleh but the rest of it is great in my opinion.
Sorry if I got a bit heated, but as a UI designer myself this proves that too many people are busying worrying if their designs are ‘cool’ in the eyes of other designers rather than thinking about site goals and user experience. I’ve seen a lot of ‘cool’ sites, I looked at them once, and never went back. That means that design failed.
Hello, I like the design, simple and uncomplicated, do think that there should be some more colours otherwise there is a lot of white space. Articles are good and worth the read, think that the article pages should remain consistent with the home page and start to the left rather than off centre.

actually, design is about art, layout and typography. information architecture is about solving communications problems and serving content in a useful manner. and how is striving to always win awards (not just the fwa, but in general) with your design “jacking off to your design” - what better way to promote your work or your business than to win awards, be published and recognized by the right people and organizations?
no offense but you sound like a bad designer justifying bad design by saying “but the content is readable”

Sounds like it’s YOU that doesn’t give a rat’s *** about that. In my experience users get tired of the same old BS over and over. Users want to be wowed. Users want to see something different since the internet is a giant rehash of pr0n and pop ups.
I’m not saying your point of view is wrong but you’re def. forgetting the design is an art form and you def. sound like you don’t care about design as long as the UI is easy to use. And you’re def coming off as lazy and dated. Take a look at http://2advanced.com/ - we’ve all seen it before but it’s a truly successful example of the marriage of great UI, great content and great flash. Even better it’s all wrapped up in gorgeous graphics.
alas, it’s all opinion really so who cares… you do what you do and i’ll do what i do. i’m gonna continue “jacking off to my own design” and hopefully i’ll continue to score awesome clients and work and meet other designers that aren’t afraid to make things LOOK AND WORK great.
http://2advanced.com is certainly a “wow” site haam, but to be honest, I think this site is a little bit the other extreme for this argument. This whole thing is certainly all about opinion and very subjective, so really a “non-argument” anyway, as you’ve previously stated, but for me, and my own personal tastes, this site falls down due to the fact that the content is lost in an over-designed User experience. I got bored of it pretty quick, and glossed over the content, watching tweens instead, and being blown away by the design.

Nice link though. ta!
word, opinion is opinion. i just wanted to make the point that it doesn’t have to be boring to have a great interface or handle tons of content well. it can be more than just text and still be successful. truce.
Yeah, honestly, the current 2Advanced site is looking pretty dated, and their navigation solution is a serious pain in the rear to use. It’s busy, visually unorganized, and doesn’t do a good job of highlighting the content that they want you to see.
I’m a big fan of the agency, but that site is over 2 years old now, and it’s not exactly a shining example of usability.
i feel like that has been a problem with 2advanced since 2advanced was just the one guy, whatever his name is… it’s like they focus on the details and specificity of the whole thing so much that they end up pigeonholing themselves to one look.
although, their one look (let’s call it Blue Steel) is very pretty (or at least, was, upon first view)
flash and design are a double edged sword. our world of design is always changing and advancing, that’s great but it eats up a lot of high quality design and dev in it’s wake.
You’re right, it does look dated, and it seems they haven’t really moved with the times doesn’t it?
When Flash 6 was in it’s infancy stages, 2advanced was fairly cutting edge, the site itself, and the work they were doing, but now?
I mean, I’ve come back to Flash after a few years break, and I’m amazed at how far it’s come on since Flash MX.
And seeing this site is like a step back for me, it is far worse than the world class, contemporary Flash sites, and seems to look a lot worse than the previous 2ad revisions that I can remember.
