'I'm assuming you're all illiterate'

Have you read the ‘Top 10 Reasons’ to buy a mac?
They’re good at first, ‘Simple Networking’ ‘Plug ‘n’ Play’

but then they reduce themselves to retarded things like ‘It just… works’ [actual words], and ‘It’s pretty’ and ‘We’re assuming you’re all illiterate.’

Any thoughts on this? I don’t know why I posted it.

yah, they did a top ten because a “top 2” doesnt have the same ring to it.

idiots.

Do you have a link to this list?

yeah… i really like to see the actualy list

Sure thing, lemme find it.

hm… this is the official list on mac.com… nothing about ''We’re assuming you’re all illiterate."…

cheers

Yes, well, I was going from my memory of the list a few days ago, AND the illiterate part was sarcasm, though it’s obvious they’re aiming at the ‘computer illiterate’ market.

If you’ve seen the why switch ads, you’d agree. It’s pretty pathetic.

“I just put the wire from here, to here! and it worked! I SAVED CHRISTMAS!” And she even included hand gestures to show plugging in wires. It’s rediculous.

gets scared

SureShot lives like… down the street from me.

…London Road is really really long… but I’m scared all the same!

I don’t think you understand that not everyone is a super computer expert like you.

:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m so flattered… but I’m hardly an expert.

I know how to restart when something doesn’t work, and I know how to unplug stuff and re-plug it in.

That’s how I fix my problems, and maybe some stuff in the control panel, then I just ask for help.

Mac does that because it attracts people like my mom, blonde and dittzy, they just need words like ‘beautiful’ and ‘it works’ to sell it to her. My mom is cool, but she is not book smart or electronic smart, unless it’s a cell phone. She is business smart, it’s all you need to survive in the corporate world…

I think I consider myself a little above the “newbie” level… I, too, can unplug and replug something… but oftentimes that just doesn’t work… long story short - this results in many many trips to Fry’s Electronics for replacement or compatible parts. Many people get frustrated. These are the people Apple has been targetting with its Switch ads. By “It just works” they mean that if I want my digital camera to work, I just plug the thing in and it works instantly - no fussing over drivers or “compatibility.” This might not seem like a big deal to you, because you just might be used to installing drivers and thus everyone who craves a simpler, easier process is stupid. I don’t know about you, but if someone invents dishes that wash themselves, I think it’s a smart move to get them! It’s a good ad campaign, even if PC computer gurus (not Apple’s target, since, in my experience, these people pretty much already made up their mind) find them stupid.

And as far as their final reason “It’s beautiful,” again, you might not appreciate aesthetics, but some people do - again this is an audience Apple is marketing to. Some people like style.

Well said I reckon :cowboy:

Own em’ up RenGirl

In regards to the commercials - so what if she uses hand gestures? A lot of people do that to express themselves, even if what he or she is saying is obvious. Is she supposed to stand still the whole time like a zombie? At least she’s a real person and not some random stock photograph.

I’m assuming you only saw the Janie Porshe and Ellen Feiss commercials (or you are isolating them specifically to strengthen your argument) and based your opinion on that.

I guess when you want to prove a point you go the whole 9 yards!

RenGirl’s morph into battle mode:
