Is AI changing how companies justify leaner teams?

I keep hearing AI talked about like it automatically unlocks efficiency, but in a lot of companies that seems to turn into a reason to hire slower and ask more from the same people.

That can look great on a spreadsheet for a quarter and ugly everywhere else once support, QA, and customer trust start taking the hit. Has anyone seen AI actually change the internal argument about headcount, margins, or what a team is supposed to carry?
