A US woman soldier who shot to fame after being taken prisoner during the Iraq war has accused the military of using her for propaganda purposes.

Yeah, I actualy have respect for her now. She realised she was a tool for the pentagon as a item of propoganda…

Now, she probably knew that from the beginning. Too bad she had to speak out now after all the media and other forms of hype surrounding her have died down. I would have more respect for her when she spoke out during her millionth interview or umpteenth parade. Not when she is yesterday’s news, stale bread, last week’s homework,…etc. etc.
She merely took advantage of what was given to her, and when what she expected wasn’t coming through, she feels it proper to badmouth her former source of fame. Either she is really “intellectually challenged” or very manipulative.
I agree, she waited way to long to come to her senses, but hey she earned a purple heart for crashin a humvee, and is still alive. She is lucky, especially when compared to her rescuers, who keep dying in completely-unrelated, and accidental circumstances.
The whole thing is ridiculous, considering that she got a freaking book deal to tell her story, when she has complete amnesia!!

Ahaha! Nice. Yeah, I’m kind of pissed off at the whole ordeal. She told everyone that she fought for her life and fought to the death, etc etc, but from the reports I heard, the ballistics on her gun showed that she didn’t even fire a single round. She just curled in the corner and waited for death to come. But it didn’t and now she’s the US gov’s show dog… and now that all the commotion and promotion is over she starts whining about it. I wish I knew where she lives so I could slap her, and her parents. What a bunch of idiots.

Exactly. I would have more respect if she had said, “No wait… these are the real heros.” But no, she soaked up the attention like a sponge with a quota to fill. The government needed something to draw attention away from the negative (entire war) and towards the positive (… uhm … )

It takes two to tango on this side of the ocean :sigh: The US Army always finds a hero during every war. That’s like blaming McDonald’s for resurrecting the Monopoly game every year.
I am sure she knew that, her friends knew that, etc. Naturally, she would speak up after I have received everything she could. She needs to realize that she isn’t a teen idol that will be on the news for years and years.

The idea was probably the military’s, but she went along with the info, nodded, smiled, and waved at the camera each time another overdramatized excerpt of her actions came out

I don’t think it was a ‘good’ one. You could read about it being faked like 2 weeks after she got ‘rescued’…

All countries do it. Every war has a hero with actions that are blown out of proportion. I’m not placing the blame entirely on her, but her sudden idealistic zeal in defending the truth is ridiculous.
Its not about who had the idea or not. The US government paraded her like she was a hero, and she didn’t say one word about it being a bad thing. She didn’t stop and say, “No its not me, I’m not the hero. Those coffins are where the true heros lie.” She soaked up the attention on all her interviews and magazine exerpt. And in order for her “movie” to air, she needed to give consent so she was definatly with them the entire time, but now that the movie is about to come out and most of the hype surrounding her has died down, she condems the government because they used her as their show pony. But she didn’t say anything about it before when she was getting all the attention.
She’s not a hero. And Phil, contrary to what the media says, the reports I have heard said that her gun did not jam, she just froze and didn’t fire a single shot. She curled up in the corner. But whether or not her gun jammed is not the issue, because even if her gun jammed, she lied about fighting. She said that she fought back, but how can she fight back with a jammed gun? Did she taunt them?

Seems like there is a big push for her right now. She’s doing a big interview with Dian Sawyer or someone.
The saving Jessica Lynch made for TV movie is coming out. The commercials are soo over the top emotionally loaded it makes me cringe.
It’s funny they chose her as a hero for the war… she didn’t do a **** thing. She got rescued… how does that make her a hero?
