I want to know how it makes real heros feel. How does it make the Bronze Star look now, to someone from say, Viet Nam, who rec’d the medal because he actually was brave under fire…
I see it as a political move. The country was obsessed with her for a while. The story of her capture had all the stuff. A white middle class girl that was in the army, then captured by the Iraqi army, shown on Al-Jazeera against the Geneva convention rules, and then she was rescued by a group of soldiers.
Now with all the bad stuff happening in Iraq, the politicians want to shift the view from all that back to something more positive. So they give her the bronze star.
I don’t consider her more of a hero than any other military person. My understanding of the story was she was in the supply convoy and was captured. From my understanding, she didn’t do anything that I would consider heroic, like throwing herself on a grenade to save the rest of her squad or something like that. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and her entire crew was captured.
I personally don’t think she deserves it, she didn’t make a decision that was heroic, she was just in a situation and she lived through it.
i think that she really didnt do much for the war, she got captured, and got rescued. Now she has a fan club, things named after her, and signs dedicating her.
i dont mean to sound harsh at all, but i dont see why she is getting so much awards.
so, does that make the Bronze Star, more like what has happened to the “Green Beret?”
The green hat used to be the elite of the Army, now it is a fashion statement…
The Bronze Star used to mean something… Now, if you are a cute white chick, and happen to get blown up during a war, not even in a combat capacity, but as a “ride along,” then you get the award for bravery?
If I were a military person, I would be so pissed…
the thing is there are no REAL heros anymore… not that we´ll ever hear about them at least.
we only know about fake heros that are considered good publicity, or a good cover up fpr some mess… the REAL ones are not in the best interest of the media or big organizations
all our heros have been hunted down and/or discredited.
i find that all american soldiers are real heros, too bad they are leadered by a bunch of war pigs and self-concerned hypocrits.
i find that all deceased fire-fighters on sep-11 real heros with capital H, sadly they died by a collateral effect of a disease that the american war pigs created.
i find all the americans real heros, coz they think they (as a nation) are doing the right thing, and acting on theirs beliefs… even tho they´re wrong.
i find my self (and all the non-american ppl) as a pittyful bystander, coz i can´t do anything about it other than cry, pray, and rant.
the sad true behind it is that we (as humans) chose to believe that our leaders are flawless altruists persons that always knows, and acts in, our best interests. Otherwise we will have to face the disturbing reality that our leaders are ppl like us, with the same qualities and deffects that we possses… with greedy and egoism as one of them.
But, just ignore me, i´m just a south-american that knows nothing about the world politics and current events…
I think that most men solders wouldn’t have even been rescued there are men being captured and they are stuck in a pow camp the only reason I can see that she got rescued is that she is a female most men solders would be left until the end but I also herd that she cant even walk on her own right now for awhile so she is being very brave considering she was beat so bad were ever she was being held at but dose she deserve the bronze star I don’t know? And don’t think of it as me being a sexist.
I think this whole lynch scene is just plain bogus. If anyone should have been awarded a bronze star it should have been my old man. He served his tour in Nam and felt that because his buddies were still dying he would serve another. That is bravery.
Not some corn-fed little girl who was captured. I cant even stand to follow the story any longer. I didnt understand the media coverage of her rescue. It showed like a million soldiers bust into the hospital with guns blazing. There was not even a significant opposition in the hospital at the time.
What ever happened to the other girl that went missing. I cant remember her name but she was some black chick. I guess black women arent heroes huh?
Dont get me wrong here. I am still 120% behind what we have done and what we are doing overseas. But this situation is disgusting.
they showed the black girl on the news first, when they said Lynch was rescued… then they suddenly had “glamour shots” of Lynch, and called her a hero.
IMO, the whole rescue was a setup, and they military wanted to have a hero, and she was cute, white, and willing (she couldn’t really say no).
She even said herself that she was in the truck, then boom, then she woke up in a hospital… She didn’t do anything heroic, except to not break into tears on camera…
I imagine anyone with a Bronze Star feels a little cheapened…
