Just wanted to let you all know

I got my first paying web design job today (well, actually not my first, but the first with my new little free-lance production company)

And I’m stoked because it’s also going to be a website for a really good cause… helping to raise money for a home for single women in Thailand who were saved from having been sold into the sex trade at a young age… through (among other things) selling Thai coffee.

Since I’m kind of new to doing websites for pay, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

And, when you first talk to a client, how does it usually work for you, do you find out exactly what they had in mind, then come up with some design ideas, and how do you determine how much you’ll charge, etc?

(For a non-profit organization like this I feel like I shouldn’t charge anything at all, plus the people i’ll be working for are friends, but he already said he’d ‘pay me handomely’ because he really needs a site, so I figure i’ll ask for something very reasonable since i’m just starting out.)

Thanks Kirupians!
