Kirupa preloader tutorial question

First off- I’m brand new to this forum/site. There are many of us out there who are accomplished designers/graphic artists and now find they have to learn HTML/Action Script to compete; it’s simply not good enough to be able to draw well any longer. Speaking for myself, entering this world of “code” to make my artwork “competitive”, is a bit daunting. I’ve used FLASH to draw graphics for the last year now, but simply didn’t have/take the time to learn HTML or the in’s and out’s of Action Script. This site goes a long way to relieving some of that newbie pain. -Thanks so much!

My question concerns the Kirupa preloader tutorials
-instructions say hit Ctrl+Enter “twice” to preview the preloader inside FLASH.
Q?- How will my .swf load/play correctly once uploaded to my web page via dreamweavermx? Won’t the movie just load and play without ever showing the preloader (like it does when I test it)? Or is this a FTP server situation, whereby the preloader will play first…(as I need it to) followed by the movie clip?

My fla file is attached in the event anyone wants to help here. bueller…bueller…anyone, anyone…?

Pressing CTRL+Enter twice puts you in “Show Streaming” mode in Flash. This imitates as if your file were loaded up on a server and being downloaded by a slower modem so you can preview what it will look like for them.

ahhh= o.k. now I understand what Flash is doing.
However, I just posted the file that contains the preloader- solarclip142frames.swf
to my att server and the preloader never displayed for me. "Is this just a case of my using my broadband connection to view the site; whereas, a dialup user might have seen the preloader play, prior to seeing the solar movie clip play? -Should I test out the preloader by using a much fatter animation in the swf, in order to verify the preloader is playing?

Btw; many thanks for your help!

-Hutch

Yeah, since you are on broadband it probably loads too fast.

A lot of times if I have something where I am not sure if the preloader works because I can’t see it I import an mp3 file (big, but not too big), then click on Frame 1, and drag an instance of the sound from the library onto the stage.

This will beef up the file size, allowing you to upload and give it a test on your modem. Although if it shows in Flash’s Show Streaming mode, it probably does work.

I appreciate your help!
take care…
