Mac buyin' advice

With regards to the performance between a MBP and an iMac, they’ll essentially be the same, only that the iMac uses 3.5" hard drives, and the MBP of courses uses a 2.5" drive. Also, the motherboard on the iMac is essentially a notebook motherboard, so the only real difference would be hard drive speed/size.

and RAM, Yo!

Ya Shane, get the 24". I always say if it’s just a little more expensive, spend the extra and buy the best. That way, if you decide to resell it in a few years, it will still retain a degree of value. That said, the 24" screen is far superior in quality to the 20" screen which is plagued with problems(Google is and you’ll see many many complaints)

iMacs use notebook memory right? Is that what you were saying?

@shane-c

If you do graphic design/photography work, then you most definitely want the 24". TN panels are only 6-bit, meaning they only display something like 256,000 colors, whereas 8-bit panels like the 24" display 16.7 million colors.

I’m not sure, but definitely do NOT buy RAM from Apple when buying your computer…

just get the 1GB it comes with, and upgrade it yourself for like, a fraction of the cost, using www.crucial.com
It has 4 more inchs of screen room? I’m gonna wait till i work here for 2 more years before I ask my work to upgrade my two monitors into 1 30", right now my computer kind of stutters when i have more than 3 adobe products open :frowning: so I use my laptop for the other apps.
4" more diagonally, which makes for a fair bit of area.

I’ve personally have a white macbook, black macbook, and a 24" iMac. I love 'em all :slight_smile:

TAB has a good guide on buying macs on their community forum :slight_smile:
