Perfect CPU?

hi guys,

i want to buy a new cpu to use it in graphic (web and printing).
so what is the perfect component ican buy it ( motherboard…)

can anyone HELP?

flashSwimmer =)

any p4 with a kick *** graphics card. geforce 4 256mb. 1gb of RAM. Anything that boosts your visual. A nice large monitor. I am not a fan of flat screens even though I have one.

Mmm P4’s

cough

actually the hyperthreading is fairly impressive. If to go P4 then go 3.06 ghz with HT.

A GeForce FX would be nice if you had the dough

I have a AMD Athlon XP 1.4 and a Geforce 3 graphics card and they both work great. I do a lot of graphics and 3D rendering.

use macs for design
they have always proven better than pc’s to me

I dont know about that it is debateable…But there is allot of software that is not available for mac…that is why I maintain pc status

tru tru
i love my pc, but wish i was using a mac(thats what we use at school for GFX)
i use my PC to program, and do flash

Just about every leading graphic/design software is already available for Mac: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Freehand, Fireworks, Dreamweaver… is there anything else? Unless you are talking about games, what software will you be missing under Mac?

“leading”? Well yeah who cares about leading software  its those little things which have no functional purpose that you can find scattered all over the place on the web that make PCs so much fun!

btw the new macs came out, faster and cheaper (as are the displays) for you mac people.

Well your employer might… I don’t think you could get a great design or freelancer job if you aren’t well-versed in Photoshop, for example. Especially since the original question was for a “cpu to use it in graphic (web and printing).”

Can you give me an example?

Plus, I heard about the recent price drops - $1999 for a Cinema Display! I’m saving my pennies now…

it was sarcasm :sigh:

No really - if there are some neat, useless apps for PCs I didn’t know about, please tell us about it! Are you talking about Windows?

LOL :stuck_out_tongue:

SWIFT V3 is not available for mac that alone is enough for me not use it…I love swift its a valuable tool in my arsenal. Plus I hat 1 button mouses (mice?)…I use visual studio very heavy…not available on mac. Until recently word and those were not available. Plus I write allot of ASP so we know that is no MAC land

Well theres a lot, I didnt have anything in particular, but in comparing user bases, its obvious that PC (windows) software will be more abundant and prevalent than mac.
Some (flash alone related) examples:

Flash Toolset
Optimaze
and
Swish

and there are many more…

Good point. I didn’t know any of this as I don’t use Swift. Neither has any of the jobs/gigs I’ve ever had or applied for required/preferred it. As far as MS Office - it’s available now. Who cares if it wasn’t available before? Doesn’t this really say that more and more software are catering to the Mac platform if anything?

As far as Visual Studio/ASP, etc, I do think it’s more advantagious to program/develop on a PC. You can get a low-end PC and still work efficiently and comfortably.

looks at cordless optical two-button scroll mouse
Last time I checked, yes I can use a multi-button mouse with my Mac.

And PC users don’t have access to well-known Mac apps like iLife suite and a slew of little random, fun apps. It’s a give and take.

It depends on your dev style. I do alot of 3d and have come to love my pc because of the availablity of software. We all know that pcs dominate the market and wont change in our lifetimes. Also I do ASP so that is native to pc. If you ask me mac has not goten rid of their suck factor yet but I do test on them since they are out there. That is why they make everything so cutesy to try to stay abreast in the market.

what are those? I life? I have never heard of that.

I am not a Mac fan, but man that 36" plasma flat panel monitor is something else… You can hang it on the wall if you want…

I wouldn’t want to do 3d on a Mac, but then again, I don’t like doing 3d on my old Windows machine.

That said, Macs are the minority, thanks only to MS, so I went the Windows route, 'cause I need to conform to the most used…

I think for a lot of things, Macs are a superior product. If money was no object, an outrageous Mac system I would have…
