Mariofan & tutorial

Hey everyone,
Mariofan PM’ed me asking me if he can write some Illustrator tutorials. I replied and said that I’ll discuss this with you all and then decide. While at one time we were planning on taking the image editing/photoshop route, the site is heading more toward Web Scripting.

I am afraid that if he does do Illustrator tutorials, it will not get as much attention as some of the Flash or (soon to be) Web Scripting tutorials.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Cheers!

well, Web Scripting is integral to some circumstance to flash as illustrator may as well be. the only problem with adding this tutorial to this site is that people may not read it because they wouldn’t expect such a tutorial on a flash-focused site. for the good of the current community, his tutorial would be a good addition because we know it’s there, so i’m kind of split on the decision. do we have any other tutorial on your site that has nothing to do with flash?

But think about it, posting the tutorial will do us more good than harm. What do we have to lose by putting it on there, well I am not so sure, because then kirupa has to add to the site’s navigation to add a graphics section. . . .

well, he could simply add an “other” section for the time being until we rack up enough tutorials of a single subject to make another section.

I have no opinion until I get a second tutorial on the site.

It’s all good, though personaly I think we need more tutorials on the Flash art tools than other programs.

Mariofan is an excellent designer in Illustrator, I would love to see some tutorials from him on the subject.

And as Dan said, they can only help, not harm. So even if their aren’t many design tutorials (…yet?..), it could be useful to have a few.

I think it is an excellent idea. Illustrator is a huge part of the design world, and having some tutorials on the prog will do nothing but enhance the site…

I’m all for it, but didn’t we decide that there woudn’t be PS tutes on this site? So if we don’t have PS tutes, I don’t see why we’d have Illustrator tutes…

I don’t think we decided that we would never have PS tutorials, but we decided to go with the web-scripting thing and focus on that instead for now…

I thought Eilsoe said something about hosting PS tutes? But you’re right, Mario should make that tute, no matter who hosts it

ok, I’ll tell him to go ahead with it then

Pom, if eilsoe would like to host it and mariofan agrees, I have no problem with linking to eilsoe’s site. I haven’t seen his tutorial yet, and no doubt he’s busy being a new father and all

Alex created a tutorial, and the URL is: http://www.alexsdesigns.net/Kirupa/tutorial.htm It’s a good tutorial for beginners, and it looks acceptable

Cheers!

Seems pretty good to me. Motion tweens seems like TOO simple a tutorial to make, but you know… there is that beginners section and all :-\

hehe yeah - I bet Supree won’t be too happy

A little late maybe, but I say an “Other” section would be good to have. I know this is a Flash oriented site, but design is also a big part of building Flash sites, and a lot of people use PS and Illustrator to do that. So I think it would be a good idea.

Heh, I’ve got a cell shading tute on my site if that’s any help? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well who cares about supree, no one likes supree.

Besides, suprees tutorial was common sense for anyone that knows how to tween. Alexs’ tutorial went over how to create a basic tween for beginners, and anything after that involving tweening is just common sense

Are there any other beginners level tutes that could be written? I’ve mentioned this on Random, but in case people don’t see…

Things like drag and drop - that crops up quite a bit in the Flash forums. I’ve got some programs that would really help with that (I think), so would that kind of thing help out?

Shape tweens… questions involving shape tweens are asked every now and then.

I personally can’t tween to save my life, so any basic animation tutorial, I can’t do.

Sure kit - we can have multiple tutorials on the same topic if you want. There is a drag and drop tutorial from years ago here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/dragdrop.htm It is very outdated though

I would rather have basic tutorials on any topic belonging in the Web Scripting (soon to be Web Technologies) section instead, but anything that can be added to the site including Flash tutorials is great!

Cheers!
Kirupa

I started a few of my web scripting tutorials last night, but then I got sidetracked :frowning:
