MM news: Flash 2004 update in November!

…some interesting information in the Breeze Presentation released today by Macromedia. This Breeze Presentation covers their financial information for the quareter but has some little things in there that some might find interesting.

There will be an update to Flash MX 2004 in November . I have no idea what they will be doing but i’m assuming this will be targetting many of the issues that people have expressed about the release.
Royale will be showcased at MAX and will be released early next year.
Macromedia’s server products are selling better than expected.
Macromedia’s 2004 product family did not sell as well as expected.
Macromedia will be purchasing eHelp. eHelp has great products and i’m sure this will be a good addition to Macromedia’ products.
Overall it was a good quarter for Macromedia!

lol senocular :D…

It’s good to know they’re releasing an update, i was actually expecting that sorta, it has way too bugs to be ignored

Royale should be interesting… as Sean Voisen puts it (link), “[Royale is] where Flash animation tool and Flash the development tool will finally diverge,” and that’s good!

I don’t know about that. To me it seems like its taking Flash even MORE-so down the development path and further leaving animation behind in the dust. I mean, really, what significant advances in animation have their been in the past 4 versions? I can’t think of 1, and with Royale posing as a “initiative at Macromedia that addresses the requirements of enterprise programmers who want to develop Rich Internet Applications” it seems to avoid the animation aspect almost completely.

That’s true sen, but who cares about animators :chinaman:

It’s like they’re trying to convert it to an application-development sorta environment, and as a developer, and don’t quite see what’s wrong with that, i like it

that’s 'cause you’re a no-talent snot-nosed punk…

Rev

lol

meh… i maybe am after all, but let’s face it, flash is more useful as a development tool than an animation :stuck_out_tongue:

Yup, can use ToonBoom for that (very nice soft btw…)
Lol, sen, ok, title “adjusted” …

That just proves my point. Though Flash is very much suited for animation (especially for web) Macromedia hasn’t been taking care of business in that arena and neglecting any advances in animation since… since, well I’m going to say Flash 4/5 but thats because Ive never used 3 or lower so I don’t know what it was like before then then.

I mean one huge help would be to have multiple timelines available for nested clips. This would allow you to control the timeline of any nested clip within the current clip directly in the view along with the current timeline. It wouldn’t require a change in the SWF format and could be invaluable for animators. I mean, really? How hard would that be to implement?

That’s Macromedia… (or any other software vendor for that case lol):sigh

I wish they would bring the Action Menu available as an option on right-click. That would make it so awesome

did you send a wishlist report in for that? If enough people do it, the engineers will answer and make it so =)

didnt they improve the timeline in flash MX? like being able to make groups. I do agree tho they are leaving the artists in the dust and forcing us to program to be competitive. which is Kinda cool in a way. **** I need to learn AS.

I agree 200% ! And also, make the actionscript window less intensive. I run it on a quite slow machine, and it really is unbearable. It seems like it checks syntax every 0.5 ms.
