My first flash site

My animation seems choppy. Not sure what to do.

Please help.

it’s pretty nice!

I would get rid of the gradients (use some other texture). Also change the Royal Blue Look. True blue is kinda hard to pull off. Up the framerate! It should be somewhere in between 20fps and 30fps. I would also put the section text on the buttons somewhere. I also would make the background grid finner. Remember, with web design, SMALLER IS BETTER! Other than that, it’s a verry nice site for a first try!

Keep it up!

oh and the animation is choppy because your frame rate is too low

Should I maybe go with a bacground image and not use top and bottom frames? Seems bulky and clunky…not smooth.

It’s discouraging to make a web site then look at other sites on the internet. You can really tell how unprofessional it looks.

Just trying to create arbitrary animations turns out to be challenging. For example, www.2advanced.com has little blinking symbols and everything moves fast and smoth. Seems like their framerate is over 100fps. Just trying to duplicate something as small as a blinking dot i’m finding difficult.

Like Pixi’s http://www.antpackham.com. The animation is smooth. Looks very professional.

Any tips would be appreciated!

^ Agree.

Don’t get down on yourself, it’s your first site.

As far as the little blinking symbols on 2A’s site… that’s possible with a high framerate (fps) like Nirvana mentioned.

Pretty good considering it’s your first. :thumb:

As i see, pretty nice for a first timer doing flash site. keep it up.

So is it best to go with high frame rate? Is there a frame rate that’s too high?

yeh looked pretty cool considering it’s your first go. But I think you could improve it by, first of all, re-doing the heading. It just doesnt look good, too chunky.

I agree. But I ran out of ideas on the heading. I tried different things but nothing seemed to work. I was hoping the customer had a logo or something I could use but they don’t. In their documentation they referr to themselves as PMEC. Maybe I can do something in photoshop.

Hey dude, this is very good for a first site ! remember all the funky 2advanced type sites out there are done by ateam of guys with years of tips and tricks up their sleeves.

I am by no means an expert but maybe this will help get your animation nice and crisp

  1. Never use shape / gradient tweens
2.Try to make animations happen in sequence — eg after the user clicks a button, and you are wanting eg 4 things to happen animation wise – try to stagger them so that the CPU doesnt battle with rendering the animation at runtime.
  2. If you are going to have little things all animating at the same time - make sure you get the movies as small as poss eg re-use all the elements once ( eg if you have anumber of glowing balls - make one and tint it / re use it)
4.Strokes on objects often take CPU and slow animation - if you need to use a stroke on something, convert the stroke to a fill (modify>shape>convert lines to fills)
  3. 25-35 frames per second frame rate !

I reckon just these few things will help a lot - try them out and experiment ! And hey EVERYONE, even the best designers are always the most critical of their work… thats how you get better, by “borrowing” ideas and trying new stuff.

Keep it up man. You are better than I ever was with my first flash site!!!

Caio. Pixi.

just keep going and you will be great! THis is extreamly good for a first… my first site was 2meg per page and the page only had a picture on it

Keep it up!

I was wondering if I should have the content for each areas (buttons) located on external swf files. I would then have to figure out how to load the external swf in my movie when a button is clicked.

Is this a better way and is it possible?

To answer my “is it possible” question. I just noticed the tutorial “Transitions Between External SWFs” by Voetsjoeba.

Is this a better way to handle content?

Yes, much better way.

Wizard,

Regarding your user title. I can hardly wait. Halo is awesome. Now with Xbox Live it’s going to be better. :beam:

This is the info my customer wants for the second button. This is alot of info to scroll. I’m not sure how to handle this. I’ve never worked with this much text for just one button. This contains text and graphics.

I need suggestions on how to handle this. Put it in an external swf? Scroll pane?

What to do?

that site lags so much!!!

even knowing i am listing to winamp got and 68 other progs running:P

I get extreme lag from home but when I access it from work I don’t get any. Is there any way to fix the lag as well?
