My first professional site

First off i’d like to say its not completely done, second i’d like to say i’ve learned alot since i started two weeks ago.

So i came at this project with basic knowledge of actionscript, the client didn’t want all that much, so i figured if i ran into any problems i would just consult a tutorial or two, maybe make a few posts here. I know i sound like i’m sucking up, but senecular and the rest of the community has helped me in too many ways to list.

So I thought i’d just list a few things i’ve learned personally.
One is to keep your code simple and clean, right now i have one thousand lines of code and around 100 moveclips, looking back i know i could have done it more efficiantly. Though since my client isn’t trying to learn anything from the code, or decompile it or anything, i thought i’d just leave it unless its causing any functionality problems (it is, and i will be fixing it).

Another is, before you start a job, have method of payment, whats expected, and a simple outline. I just took the job without thinking about much, definitly a newbie mistake, now i’m struggling to get paid, and they are constantly adding things on to my to do list. I realize its my fault and that will never happen aga

Yet another is maintain business ethics, no matter how much you want to say lul or lmfaowtfhahabbq, you need to take a serious tone, i’m pretty sure i said “lol” a few times in our convos, looking at the logs it doesn’t make for a professional relationship.

Start with the finish product in mind, will you have to go back and edit it, will it take editing 100 lines of code for just one revision (the answer is yes in my case, sigh).

A few more simple ones, don’t get angry if the client sais they don’t like it, simply ask why and figure it out, clients have their own language, and it isn’t always interpretable by anyone but them, so just try to ask a question in a different way without being offensive, don’t use vulgar MSN names, maintain your composure, if you don’t like the website, there is no reason they should like it, so if nothing at all be happy with what you’ve made and learn from it.Name you things conventionally, don’t name a movie clip lawl, and expect three weeks down the line to remember it. Try to add on extensions like _txt or _thisfunction or abbreviations, they really help in the long run.

I know all the these are newbie mistakes, and i shall learn more with time.

Anyways heres the URL

Its rough around the edges still, some transition tolerence issues (ie if you press the home button while your moving the arrows on environmental issues, totally messes the whole thing up) those shall be fixed. Also not all the read mores are functional, and they don’t have their content in them yet. So it looks pretty bare.

I’m up for input, you can say whatever you like it, but the client and I are both happy with the concept, maybe a few minor changes, but for the most part the designing is done.
