Hi, I’m making a new site… the interface is pretty much done, and I am just starting the content.

Software that I use is Adobe Photoshop CS and Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Pro.

I did the logo in photoshop, the font is AnArChY [obviously] and did the anarchy sign myself.

As for the buttons, the icons are from various places like www.wincustomize.com and [url=“http://www.xicons.com”]www.xicons.com. I changed the hues of the icons to red and brought down the opacity a bit. The bubbles that the icons are in were done by me.

The paper graphic was also done by me in photoshop.

The rollover, rollout animations as well as the rest of the animations were done in Flash.

I use fonts from www.fontsforflash.com, they appear very clearly at 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600, but not so well at higher resolutions.

I have a script that detects flash , and detects screen resolution so that the site appears in a full-screen popup

I would gladly like to hear your suggestions, compliments, and critisism.

I am relatively new to photoshop (been using it for a year), but I have been using flash since the days of Flash 4.0 and have been learning actionscript.

Also, do you guys think I have talent? I’m going into high school next year (I’m 14 years old) and was thinking about helping out with the school site. I dont think I am very artistic, as I barely pass art in school every year-- but I am fairly knowlegable about the internet and computers.

Hey there gnome. It seems like it is all workin… I just needs some more depth in the design… All you really working with is that red and the gray. I would think about loosing that bevel on your logo, just seems like there is to much going on there. I really think you spend some more time on the design:) but great start!!!

i think you’ve only gotten a few responses because everything takes so long to load. i don’t know whether it’s the server you’re on or if your files are just huge. either way, it needs to be fixed.

basically the only thing i can really critique is the menu and that i like. but i’m not so sure it fits with the Anarchy theme.

oh, nevermind, i was thinking the sections would actually load. the main interface loaded fine.

your site is unique, but equally important is being unique for the right reasons. your header looks like chicken scratch. there’s just no power behind it, especially with the emboss (i think it’s emboss) on it. same thing with using that background color, there’s just no power behind it.

These are the guys that make plugins for After Effects, Final Cut Pro, and photoshop. you might concider tweaking your logo a bit just to look different.

I think FlashPlaya’s site is hardly run of the mill, Mr Gnome ( or should that be master?). And he hosts on (mt). So a lesson for you there already.

Hmm… well since his site is Anarchy, and that’s an Anarchy symbol, I don’t think there is a need to change it, since the Anarchy symbol wasn’t even theirs to begin w/ either.

Although I think Gnome prolly shouldn’t have degraded FlashPlaya’s site, that’s not the point of the post.

The nav doesn’t flow well w/ the whole Anarchy theme IMO.

The logo beveling is over done

If you keep the nav… maybe keep it in the browser, when you roll over certain ones the tops and bottoms disappear. Even though they are still usable, prolly would look better still on screen. And move them alittle closer.

The ruled paper has some kind of white border around it where the document is.

Maybe touch up that pencil a bit, make it more realistic.

Colors are lighter than what I originally expected. Had expected dark colors, as the name sorta leads to that.

Anarchy type just doesn’t seem to be cuttin it… IMO

Nav is cool, doesn’t flow well… but cool none the less.

Font usage is pretty good, aside from the Anarchy font.

Eraser thing is fitting to the paper, tweening and whipe needs to be touched up a bit.

Gnome your site is not unique. It is the same as alot of other sites where the designer just hasn’t planned it out properly and rushed into the construction. Sorry for being harsh but that’s what it seems like you have done.

All the seperate elements of of your site don’t combine well. Your menu is too modern for the logo and the content area, the content area doesn’t goo with the logo and the logo isn’t very logo-esque. What you should do is pick your favourite of these three elements and design a site around that.

If you choose the logo go with a darker site with a scratchy menu and an uneven content area. If you choose the menu as your favourite thing design a modern site that suits the button style (i.e. plenty of metal and glass in the layout). If the paper content area is what you like best then go witha hand drawn look, possibly with a frame by frame animation to it so that it looks like an old cartoon.

Why you hating on MT? I go with them, not for the status… But they are on my block:) and there are also the best host I have work with (“and i have worked without alot”) :slight_smile: They are also not that expensive 9.95 a month i think??

Not hatin on MT… I use them. And $9.95 is only based on the package you get. Buuut, my point is you tried to use MT as some sizable excuse for him to be considered a good designer. At least that’s the way it read to me… something about a lesson being learned cause he was hosted by MT.

Oh dearie me. This post has generated too much heat. We hve probably traumatised little Gnome person. And as for (mt) - dearie me again. Some people had complained about speed of the site. So mine was a tangential comment about good hosting potentially improving speed. MT are fast and they deliver a feature rich product. I too host with them ( and I am in the bloody UK…! of course I have a dedicated…if anyone wants to buy hosting cheaper than mt offers - ask and you shall receive!!!) Simplistik - so you are being true to your handle. Enough of this. Gnome has got enough feedback and so have we all.
