I work with the disabled population and train people to use screen readers, it is very important. It is easy to discriminate a population by mistake and we should at least try, when we can, to accomadate others. Unless of course, the site is geared directly too a visual response and offeres no really usefull data, in which case a splash screen should be used.
To me a school site, any school site should be made either in an accessible format or have an accessible format available. I have been working on some code to provide an accessibility tool bar that will make a page fully accessible with some options, I bet there is a way to incorporate flash content as well… :kommie:
I’m discriminated. I’ve got a resolution larger than 1024x768 and I still want to view the site in best conditions =)…
I’m not too fond of the site; the scrollbars just look like basic ones; the menu looks somewhat too tweened, as the intro animation (with that ‘truth’ text that has a bad tech-looking font) and you didn’t spell reality write (which looks a tad corny for a school). The splash screen looks like a bad dvd menu… Maybe make a more discreet mousover ?
As 3d nirvana pointed out never link to a swf… :-/
Fonts are getting out of hand, you’ve got different fonts for your webpage than for your pop-ups…
I personnaly think the site would have looked much better with proper html, css & eventually dhtml for menu, as well as maybe a flash header to jazz things up…
cheers;

Well dude I went ahead and tested your site with a screen reader and it is not at all accessible. I suggest, just for some compassion for your classmates, or staff who may use screen readers, you could include some alt text on your splash screen. Something to let them know they can’t use your website. With a screen reader the site is messed up and frusterating.

yeah i know it isn’t that good, but most of the time i was kind of learning how make a flash website, also most of the pop-up pages were ported from the original site (i was too lazy to do all the work myself) and i will have to do a spell check later on.

sorry about the sreen reader and stuff but i have no idea how to do that. My teacher was thinking of hiring me next year to update the site, if i get the job i’ll make a simple html version and design it for a screen reader (i’ll have to read up on it).
by the way, i came first in my class for the assignment with 97%
when second place was like 80% so i’m happy. and overall for the year i’m equal first (i stuffed up the major test).

If you need any help in the future with accessibility feel free to PM me, I’ll be glad to help or test things out for you.
ok will do thanks for offering the help, i won’t be doing much design, both graphic and web until after november 12 as i have my final exams, which i need to get into uni, so i got to hit the books.
i have fixed up some of the spelling and also changed the text so that it is uniform throughout the flash section.
