I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I’m a graphic designer who has designed pretty much everything print related - posters, credit cards, brochures, billboards, vehicle graphics, etc… I don’t usually do websites but someone has asked me to put a proposal together for designing a website. Just the design. This is my first gig for this client and there is potential for a lot more cool work (he is a creative director for GQ magazine along with a ton of other stuff). What do you think I should charge and is it normal to supply a certain number of concepts and revisions based on that price??? This guy has money but I don’t want to charge to much - I want this job (relationship), impress him with my design and then possibly charge more - what do you guys think??? Looking for a number + # of concepts and revisions based on that number.

the way we charge is depending on kind of work and hours. People can get this stuff done for really cheap in India but then you got the quality so figure out how many hours of work is there and then charge on that base. We get £10 per hour.

that seems insanely low - £10 per hour??? I usually charge anywhere from $35 - $70 per hour to do design work??? This is a pretty straight forward site (photography site). The design will be clean and minimal. Just looking for actual #'s that include # of concepts and revisions. Kirupa is filled with web designers - what do you guys charge to design a site without doing the backend???
As far as layout goes, I’d create all your concepts in Illustrator or InDesign. Seems like the way to go. Especially in InDesign, then you can transfer your style sheets over, etc. If it’s a simple site (eg. essentially no back-end stuff, basic HTML or Flash) I might be able to help free-wise. I’m kinda in the same boat as you, I (or I think) I am a decent designer, done it all (again, sorta), but never any practical application of web development.

I’m not really looking for advice on how to design the site but more on pricing??
Just looking for ball park #'s for just the design. I know these numbers aren’t set in stone but I want something like - i would charge $1000. This includes 2 concepts and 2 sets of revisions. Something like that. Just looking for opinions guys.
