hey guys, I’m currently a secondary 4 school student (the equivalant of grade 10, if i’m not wrong), and i’ve been offered a job. I’ve no job experience, and so have no idea as to what quotations I should give.
I’ll be meeting up with the client tomorrow to figure out the details of what he wants before I give a quote.
anyone can give an estimate of what would be a reasonable price?
the site would most probably be at least half-flash based as that’s my area of expertise for web design.
and uh…i made my current website in under an hour just so that my webspace was kept alive with a reasonable index.html page
i do have a better example, I had submitted it for a competition and managed to grab an award (althought IMO the competition had low standard competitors), but it’s nowhere on the net right now…maybe i’ll upload it later.
On a site I did about 2 years ago, with no flash, but about 10-12 pages, i got about $650. I spent it all repairing my computer which melted while I was working on the site…
haven’t had a full site to work on in awhile, but I do some minor updates on http://www.lamalobsang.com about once/twice a month for $20 a change. It depends on the work you’ll be doing though…
Dont undersell yourself – good webdesign is worth alot of money, once you start selling sites for under £500 then its hard to justify anything more. Remember your not selling a product, but a service – your time, experience and skills. I wouldn’t do a proper site for under £500-- infact i dont think I’d bother getting out of bed for that. But seriously, if you realy have something to offer then its down to what your prepared to work for, sure be reasonable to get the job, for experience and portfolio but rember you gota spend YOUR time on it, as a service provider its your time thats worth the money.
You also need to take into account the software you’re using. You need to be able to pay for the software to make sites, so you need to charge high enough to compensate.
The next site I get hired to do, if its got flash, and is about the same size, I’ll probably charge about $800 - $1000, since I was kind of doing a favor to a friend and charging a little less… it was a Non-profit Organization, anyway, so, you know, gotta be nice to them NPOs…
