Need design input on my new site

Not many of you know i was working on a redesign, actually many of you probably don’t know of me anymore.(is this still the same guys?)

Here goes: http://joshuajonah.com/

I wrote it in Python/Django, the blog is homemade(not like that’s hard with django). I’ve still got some things to do, notably, the contact form but it’s pretty much where i wanted it.

I wanted it to be clean and typography oriented. I think I achieved that goal, but I’m not sure about the flow of it.

Please have look and feel free to tear me a new one(I don’t mind a harsh crit).

It’s getting there. The cutoff image on the left is a nono, looks bad to me on a bigger resolution. I also don’t like the drop shadow / line running along the bottom.

Otherwise it’s good, and I think you’ve achieved your goal.

Yeah, i get alot of harsh feedback on that pic, I’l replace it with something more fitting. Maybe I’m ugly:D

Looks nice man. Only thing I would change is removing the picture of you. While the Don’t stop believing shirt is awesome… it doesn’t fit.

Also try and make the bottom gradient stay at the bottom on the shorter pages.

Yeah, i was contemplating ways to do that properly. I was thinking maybe the footer is in a height:100% div with a min-height, but the problem is the minheight will be dynamic

The picture is fine, it’s just half a picture =p

What happened to your other half? lol

It got sliced for my resume (yes my picture is on my actual resume, and it suprisingly gets me ALOT of calls), then i lost the source in the great crash of 2008(isolated to my house(raid died)). I’m too lazy to get another picture taken, someday I’ll have my photo guy pull down the white again.

[ot]I want to join your club[/ot]

Yea I remember your resume, it looked great and I think the picture would work on your site if you had the whole thing.

Mr Johan! Hey man, long time no talk.

First of all kudos for Django-ing.

Now the design. I think it would be fine if you didn’t use desaturated colors like you did. Medium gray fading to medium purple/pink is just a terrible combination. I’d pick a different color scheme all together.

Also your typography is all over the place. Your kerning is different in every block and you have a ton of different fonts. I think a serif font such as Georgia would work much better for your content as that’s closer aligned to the look I feel like you’re going for.

Anyway just glad to see you have a site up :beam:

yeah I know, speaking of kerning:

There’s three fonts on the entire site.

The style on that bottom bit of text on the homepage is actually a mistake, it’s supposed to be normal.
yeah I know, speaking of kerning:
Touche. Though mine serves as a wordmark :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, long time away for Ontario’s golden boy. I like the site. Not a huge fan of the pink but simplicty==good.

Yea i think the pink is too subtle, which renders the entire purpose of pink, as a colour, useless

I think you would benefit more with a very light beige/dark brown combo, using pink as a highlight here and there…

are you able to write your name really nicely? I think that would look better as opposed to using a font,

“WE’RE A FULL SCALE CREATIVE FIRM ON THE THRESHOLD OF RELEASING A CUTTING EDGE DIGITAL SIGNAGE NETWORK”

needs more line-height

“why me?” heading on /why_me/ should line up with the left margin of your content

Where did the blue in “contact me” come from? its kind of disconnected from your colour scheme, even in the blog, but if you change your overall colour scheme like we’ve been suggesting, these could be a nice bright pink

Think about it,

hugs and kisses

I really, really hate the colors. I’m not sure if it’s a personal thing, but I just despise them. :frowning: The gray just sort of fades into the pinkish purple, and the whole thing looks like a big slightly fruity mess to my eyes. It’s a good layout though, definitely getting there. :thumb:

When I said remove the photo, I meant like replace it with a more current one. Isn’t that one getting kind of old?

Also wanted to say the colours look good to me.

Ok, i changed it a little. Still a pic there, but i made everything greeny… mmmm.

Also the blog is actually working now.

muuuuuuuuuch nicer

lol, i actually made a photoshop action and applied it to all the images in the site and then changed the css:bucktooth:

Well, I just really don’t like it to be honest, sorry :-/

The colors are better - but I think you should work on these things:

The image cut-off feels awkward still.

You’re using way too many different fonts, it makes the page feel scattered. There are eleven fonts on your homepage. :stare:

You’re not showing off any of your work, this is a pretty serious weakness in my opinion. I think the page would be much better if there was some more visual interest in the form of portfolio items - but as it is you have nothing but text, and the text itself just doesn’t feel quite interesting enough.
I think you’re getting closer, but it feels awkward and under-designed at the moment. Developers need purty pages too! :beam:
