im pretty new to photoshop. i understand how to make that shape but if someone could give me a step-by-step on how to achieve the beveled/shadowed/bent look. i would really appericate it
To answer your first question I would make a Rounded Rect and use the “T” button and use either the warp tool or distort. Then on the left I would either mask it, or erase it.
To get accustomed to the beveled effects I would make several copies and go into your layer effects and play with the bevel. You can customise it at the lower half in the beveled effects dialogue.
Part of the shadow is on a different layer and a little bit is on the bottom right.
You can use the Gradient tool on a different layer and mask away what you don’t want. Or you can use the burn tool to darken that area.
I am sure someone will post with a different and probably better way. But hopefully this will get you started.
Airbrush the shadows with a low opacity brush and just eyeball it.
The bevel thing can be done like this. Copy the shape layer, nudge the new layer up and to the left. Ctrl+click on the shape to get its selection. Modify>contract>1 pixel. now you have the outline, use the eraser with an airbrush type setting and low opacity to create the fade effects on the bevel. make a new layer underneath the bevel layer you just made. ctrl click on the original shape layer to get it’s selection. Get the airbrush tool and set the color to a fairly dark grey. Make the setting on the brush to flow of 10%. Do a little brushing on the corner area. This should give you the effect you want.
the bent look is pretty much just masking. And the bevel is a layer style added to the shape layer. Then mask that to give it the fade. A common trick to make something seem bent or concaved is to applya gradient to it. If I hae time later I may be able to make you a mini tut on how to achieve what you are after. It is pretty simple.
