Optimizing transparent PNG files in Flash?

Is there any way to optimize PNG files so the Flash filesize is smaller? I am using transparent PNG32 images rendered straight from Lightwave 3D for a lot of the site (buttons, characters, etc…). Right now at 65% JPG quality on export, my Flash site is already 180k and it only has a few small images in it so far (24 frames for the character movieclip that watches the cursor). My site will be fairly picture intensive since its my art portfolio site. Most of the pictures inside the Flash site will just be the thumbnails and the fullsized images will be popup windows outside Flash.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Here’s the site so far:

Can you not use a lesser quality jpeg without sacrificing much quality and bringing the filesize waay down?..I’ve seen this suggested a few times to people.

try saving it as a png-8 or png-24 image, using PS and also reduce jpeg export quality to about 50%

Well, I need them to be 32 since I need the transparent background. I can run them through Photoshop or Imageready before importing into Flash though…that might help some. Also it did help A LOT turning the quality down from the default 80% just to the 65% I had tried first (went from a 280k file to a 180k file!). I’ll try 50% and see how that looks as well (just tried 50%…got it down to 157k now). I’ll try optimizing in PS and importing to Flash next. I just don’t want to sacrifice quality too much since its my portfolio site.

Thanks for the suggestions.
