A few of us have been toying around with an idea in the D&D forums (original thread) for a Kirupa passaround book.
The concept is essentially this:
Every interested participant (I’m thinking something like 10 - 20 people, but we’ll see how this goes) would be required to purchase a certain type of sketchbook and fill the first couple of pages with something artistically neato and non-plagiarized. I’d like all the books to be consistent, so I’m thinking the larger sized Moleskin Sketchbook (which can be found at Barnes and Noble or Borders in the 15USD range). You’ll also be responsible for shipping each book you receive to the next participant and will also be responsible for your art supplies. So to be realistic I would guess this will cost everyone in the neighborhood of 100USD over the course of a few months, which I estimate it’ll take to do this. So please be serious about this if you’re interested.
Each participant will also need access to a scanner so they can scan the entire book in and send it to me (yes, that’s going to suck). If you’re unable to do this we can work it out so you send it to me (or anyone else willing) and have that person scan it and send it back to you, though you’ll be responsible for that extra shipping.
These books have 100 pages I believe, which we can either split evenly between the participants or kinda just wing it and see what happens.
As far as the art is concerned, it must be made using traditional mediums (pencils, paint, markers, stuff like that), and must be completely original. Nothing digital, I realize that’s where most of your competencies lie but that’s not the point of this project. Each page will need the artists name on it in one way or another, doesn’t need to be plainly visible or anything, can be incorporated anyway you like, just needs to be there.
Please post a few samples of your work. While I would love to accept everyone I do request a moderate level of skill just so there’s not dead space in the middle of these books.
You’re welcome to ask questions as well as propose ideas.
Also we need a name for the project. Something incorporating 2007 perhaps (so we can do it next year if it works out!) This isn’t directly affiliated with Kirupa forums, so I’d like to shy away from using Kirupa’s name in this as I’ll be making a separate website for this eventually.
Hope you don’t mind me tapping the community for this Kirupa, if you’re not okay with it I’ll gather entrants elsewhere.
Once the list is finalized we’ll need to work out a scheme of how to send the books around, but we can worry about that later.
