Paths in PS

wow i luv paths…they are so dam cool and i wish to master them!! at first i was confused to what i could do but now i am looking forward to using this magnifiiant tool!! so, i made this plastic art for myself following sum tutorial…can i see some of your work using this tool

Here something I made using paths to create this flame effect. Paths are one of the most important things you should learn, especially clipping paths, it can save you a lot of time when trying to remove a background from an image instead of using the eraser tool.

I’m glad you discovered paths Mak, keep it up. =)

mak can i see that tut?

yea i was reluctant to start using it, besides my settings were messed up for the tool, instead of a selection bein made, it made a file with 3 points, so i had to find out why it did that, now its so much more fun

EG: that is so amazing…musta tooken you long!!

there are so many more pen tuts…i want to play with this tool sum b4 i look at the rest of them…then my next challnage shall be airbrushing or displacement maps! :hangover:

Mak, it took me about 15-20 min on it since I basically created 3 different flames then just duplicated those and applied some layer effects. It’s easier than it looks.

Since you know how to use paths now, you should try the tutorial I used as a reference to make my flames. Let me warn you though, the tutorial assumes that you know photoshop already so it doesn’t go into detail as to where to click and stuff.

Try it out, enjoy. =)

HAH! i wish i had a smilie that points a finger like I CAUGHT you…now i see one site where you get those wonderful 3d images!! i now know secret 1…now to unviel more secrets… :stuck_out_tongue: thx alot, this shoulld be fun

hahah Mak, it’s no secret at all…there are tons of sites like that one, you just gotta look hard enough. =)

lol i know…i was joking :stuck_out_tongue: we got quite a list going in the sticky in this section!! but anyways, i’ve been “dying” to do this tut for so long

http://www.stridingstudio.com/tutorials/photomanip.html

its very similar to another tut i really want to do which is

http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tutorials/type/tutorial.asp?id=32516

wow, I’ve seen the second tut before, but not the first one. The first one looks interesting, maybe I’ll give it a shot when I get some free time and see what I can come up with.

The collection we have put together is very valuable, we should start charging…pay per view…hahaha :stuck_out_tongue:

hey i’m just quickly reading this tut and i see a section where i might have trouble

What do I mean? Well when you run a filter you can fade the effect of that filter with the previous condition. Under the filters menu there should be an option called fade after you run a filter. You can change the opacity or set a layer mode when you fade the filter.
i can’t seem to find this …help?

edit: lol, nm…shoulda checked the adobe help files b4 asking any question!! just type filter fade in search and its first result lmao…

I ran into that problem too Mak and I can’t find that feature in Photoshop 7. That tutorial is based on PS 6 I think so I’m not sure either, I ended up just doing the wave filter for that step and reduced the opacity.

You don’t have to follow that tutorial exactly, it is just to give you an idea and you go from there. I ended up getting flame out of it which looks nothing like the end result of that tutorial. =)

EG: read my edit =) i have learned many times the help files provided by the companies can do wonders…especially Macomedia’s !!!

"To fade the effect of a filter, painting tool, or color adjustment:

  1. Apply a filter, painting tool, or color adjustment to an image or 2. selection.
  2. With the affected area still selected, choose Edit > Fade.
  3. Select the Preview option to preview the effect.
5.Drag the slider to adjust the opacity, from 0% (transparent) to 100%. (See Specifying opacity, flow, strength, or exposure.)
For Mode, choose a blending mode. (See Selecting a blending mode.)
  4. Click OK."

Holy cr@p! That filter fade thing was right there all this time and I never realized what it was for…doh!! :!:

its under ‘Edit’ but i cant find the Color Range…

edit: didnt refresh the page so i didnt see taht stuff. Found mine! its under Select

i think they mean hue/saturation which is ctrl+u right elec??]

edit: lol used help files again, its under Select > Color Range =) its also under Image > adjusments > replace color …a similar thign i use to replace color lol

mak read my edit.

lo, mdipi read MY edit!!

color range feature is under the select menu, that will create the white highlights.

EDIT: nvm, you guys can do this on your own! hahaha :stuck_out_tongue:

hahaha! i luv the responsiveness like this…just wish there were more people who posted in D&D :frowning:

one more thing Elec, you know the stage area right, its gray, b4 i used to be able to use Fill tool to fill that area with another color by clicking outside the work area…i can’t seem to do that anymore, i know you can chg the background color of that by going to properties > appearance >advanced ?application bg color, but i;m looking for something dif…any ideas??

yeah we just need those tuts on the site, i am on my third!

here is my image i just finished and now its quitting time after this post, i am tired and ready for bed!
