Personal portfolio

recently completed my first website…let me know what you think or how it could be improved.

thanks.

www.apryan.com

I like it, just seemed hard to navigate which might cause problems for clients that are not web savvy or have little patience’s. I would make your back-ground with all the sketches and coffee stains etc and get rid of the white back-ground.

Cheers

I got lost, very non-linear. That’s not always a bad thing, but in this site, it is.

thanks for your response.

it isnt that complicated is it…once you get past the matchbox??? after that it seems fairly straightforward.

It could be really nice, but the navigation is a tiny bit fiddly and the speed of some bits could do with a few extra FPS. I’d centralise the site too

Tweak the code on the polaroid, as you rerollover it, it starts again…just disable the rollover until it completes perhaps.

CV nav really isn’t that obvious at first…buttons get pretty small too.

Portfolio, your archy drawings would help if you could enlarge them, as the detail is a little lost in the small images.

I like the site tho (-:

Good to see another architecture student in London around here, hows Richard Rogers? I get my Part 2 in June and need to start thinking about getting a job, not sure if London is the place yet, depends if my g/f will let us go abroad. [/ot]

Thanks for that. How funny! where are you studying?
Richard Rogers is good.Maybe you should come work here and then i could get free advice all the time!

[ot]I’m at the AA in Dip9 trying to finish this diploma, so im in serious need of sleep. I think I’ll send a CV off to Rogers, so you never know. Are you starting your part 2 in September? If so where you going?[/ot]

i don’t understand the matchbox at all. it took me a good 2 minutes to figure out how to navigate the site. that’s an eternity in web time and i would normally just have closed the page.

i appreciate your point, but as this is a personal website and isnt trying to sell anything (not aggressively anyway) i feel that i can put my own personal stamp on it…and i like people to use their brains. websites dont have to be aimed specifically at fat, hamburger munching morons…do they? Why should 2 minutes be a long time? it never used to be! It could be the most rewarding 2 minutes you spend today. (It probably wasnt!! but you see my point.)

As a personal website, it is also a project. For a project, you should look at what you want to present and you have presented something different I think. Now the matchbox and the other elements. I don’t want to know about them but if they are showing your work than it’s ok. But for a website that is different, it isn’t different then something else. Whilst it is good, don’t lose people. You need to make people aware this is this and this is that. Give people feedback. When you hover over something, make sure it says, “Home” or “Contact”. Not sure if that was there. Also, the copyright text doesn’t fit well and it looks like you just picked Arial or whatever and placed it there. Every little detail can make you or break you.

Indeed unexpected… Kumar you should look for the subject of the thread and post. Welcome to KF btw…

Hey I liked the background so much… You can do better with that background… pinned up video was good though… Iwould not put anything 3d outside page…or if I do not huge to cover up background…

I like the way you have put home and contact… how about putting other icons like them??

best wishes

Loving the entire thing. The content, i.e; posters, architecture pics, nude sketches scans etc. are however too heavy (file size and preload time) for the size (dimensionally) your are presenting.

The music is crap and utterly boring and bland for a site as innovative as yours! Sorry.

Loving everything else. That matchbox animation was fun! :thumb: :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t see the point in puttin a video up there though.

Overall? A very impressive job!

thankyou the lone phoenix. a man of taste no doubt. Any suggestions to make these images load faster??

Resize them to the size of the loaderMC plus render them at a more optimised quality level rather than going all out and rendering everything at unoptimised 100 quality! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just kidding… Render the pics at a better optimised quality. No matter how artistic, you are delivering content over the web!

Optimization. That should and WILL about do it all. Nothing else.

Oh yea… 1 thing I forgot to mention before… In the main preloader (where you have that TV givin out signals and stuff) I’d like to see some sorta animation depicting the amount of data that has been loaded.

Seeing from your style, I wouldn’t suggest a linear loader bar. But make something that actually shows the load progress.

Text = “loading” + 1… 2… 3… 0 dots actually annoyed me for a few seconds to be honest.

No major points lacking. Only those minor issues :thumb:

[EDIT]

BTW, don’t worry about the interface thingie. People just love to be picky and expect perfection out everything whereas perfection itself is a highly relative concept. So it’s all good.

No offense, whatsoever, intended to anyone.

so smart and sexy people don’t like easily accessible information and navigation that confirms their intelligence? interesting… i didn’t know that. i recommend reading don’t make me think by steve krug.

2 minutes is a long time even if the site’s proven that it has quality content, but your site has proven nothing at that point. and i didn’t feel more rewarded when i finally figured it out, i felt frustrated and unwilling to go through another round of confusing navigation.

How difficult is this to figure out? There are three elements that crave attention here, the crow, the polaroid, and the matchbox. The crow does nothing, the polaroid does nothing, but the matchbox does. I took me 10 secs, and the footsteps of the ghost starting the grammofone was fun. Let’s not start thinking that all webpages has to be accessible to all.

If this was my page, i’d speed up the menutitles from the speaker, and lose the nude people. Everybody does croquis.

I agree with bwh2 about the navigation. Maybe even a simple verbal direction such as “Click the matchbox to begin the journey!” would nullify the problem.

thankyou mikken. i agree with you. And i may lose the nude pics once i have more other projects to display. Good advice. In response to BWH2- Intelligent people dont need confirmation of it.do they?
