Please review my site

Hi Everyone:

I have recently made several updates to my site… some of which were based upon your feedback.

Please let me know what you think of the new design:

Thanks,
Amy

You’ve done well Amy. It’s a bit slow though, what fps are you using?

On another issue, on home.html you’ve got graphic design and web & interactive design rollovers. When you trying to rollover the links below these two categories, it is “hard” to actually hit the buttons, the reason is because you’ve created buttons directly from the text. What you need to do is to add a transparent rectangle above the text inside the button so that the user can hit the button more easier. Do you know what I mean?

Thanks Rex! The buttons on the home page are on a seperate layer as the text (the changing shapes)… so I don’t know why it would be difficult to get the rollovers on them. It is set at 12 fps… do you think I need to adjust that?

Thanks for your comments… I appreciate it very much!

The only thing I didn’t appreciate was the auto loadup of the flash movie in a new window… That gets annoying… Place your site ona standlone page and I will look at the rest of it…

So you don’t find it hard to rollover e.g the “online advertising”, “interactive cd’s” links? If you hit the space between the letters, the links dissappear…

I found fps at 31 to be just right.

Pleasure.

It’s true what Marz is saying. Try to avoid popups. Many users have pop-up killer programs too…

Interesting… I don’t see that over here… Maybe I just need to put the button layer in front… I will try that, get rid of the pop-up and set the fps higher… Do you know a good code for a fixed browser window without a pop-up? This way they can view it in the size I created the movie at.

I will also check on the text… it might be a button, vs. a graphic.

Thanks Again!

Ah ha… I see what you are talking about Rex… the rollovers on the Interactive/graphic design are not links… they are just put there for informational purposes… is that the problem you were referring to? I just wanted my viewers to see what I do without cluttering the home page with text… I had a lot of text on there before and people didn’t like it, so I did the rollover instead. I am open to suggestions if you think there is a more effective method.

Why would you want to have a fixed window size? For simplicity, what you can do is publish an html from flash. Go publish settings, then select html as one of hte formats you wish to publish, for instance, ‘home.html’, then in hte html settings, make sure that the dimension settings is set to “match movie”. Then that’s it. Then your flash movie won’t expand as the browser expands. Just have an index.html with your splash notifying that there’s flash ahead or use a flash detection page. :pleased:

Well, your website is all about getting new clients isn’t it? At least to a certain degree, that’s what you would want. So you wouldn’t want to make it difficult for your prospective clients to get a list of what you are doing? So why “hide” it behind a rollover… Makes it hard to print out your services doesn’t it?

The home page is a bit grey and “empty”. I’d do some graphic design and make it a good first impression of what you are capable of doing. Have some introduction text to what vizualstorm is. Don’t write too much boring stuff, but make it look interesting, make it look so interesting that the user would want to click a link that perhaps says “read more about our services” or something like that. Then on a services page, you go a bit more in detail on your services.

You’re into graphic design and multimedia design. Make it look like it

I appreciate your comments… thanks for the advice Rex!

Okay guys… I increased the fps, dropped the pop-up, added a bit more to the home page (including my services with a link to the services page), and fixed some tweening issues on the intro. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Amy

That is much better Amy! With increased fps, the site’s a killer! :hr:

And the other changes did the site good. Just be aware of a spelling mistake on the home page ‘web and interactive design’ rollover. It says “potrfolio” when it should be “portfolio”.

Well done. Cheers

Woops… Thank you for pointing that out… also, thanks for the suggestions… they were all good!
