PNG in Illustrator

I am having a rather frustrating problem with Adobe Illustrator.

It seems i am unable to open a PNG in Illustrator, or even use the place command, for that matter. The thing that really frustrates, is that it is one file that is unable to open in Illustrator. Ive tried other ones, and it works fine, and ive even tried re-exporting the PNG from Photoshop, but it makes no difference. Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

Any info would be appreciated… thanks…

also, when Illustrator freezes, it takes a lot of processing power, and no longer appears on the Windows Task Manager window…

sounds like a serious problem, why dont you just export the file in some other kind of format

is there another file format that can handle transparency, and be at 300 dpi?? will EPS do that??

there is an option to export paths to illustrator does that help?

i tried that, but it does nothing for me…

i tried an eps, but im really not in the position to experiment…

im designing an ad for a worldwide publication, fyi…

do you have fireworks or freehand…Sounds like something in ill is not letting it go thru…Try combining paths on the png when you can…and eliminating strokes where possible. Are you trying to open a source .png from fireworks or one that has been converted to a .png…There is a big difference and can be the problem

i am trying to open/import/place (any of the above) an PING that i export from Photoshop. This is the method that i use all the time, but like i said, its just this one image that it freezes up on…

I have found a workaround, however. I export a TIF, (which is what the final version of the ad is required to be in, anyway, after i lay it all out in Illustrator), and then place the image over the TIF in Photoshop, and then re-save the TIF. Crude but effective…

long as it works

lol i like ur footer Majeye :stuck_out_tongue:

clipping path…eps

thanks kei, for the compliment, and thanks Human-M, 3d-iva, and Luigifan for the suggestions
