Polish is often the easiest thing to measure

I keep seeing teams treat polish like progress because it’s visible in a demo, while the thing users actually need is still half-built. A nicer button can buy goodwill for a week; it doesn’t fix the workflow that keeps stalling people.

Has anyone else worked somewhere where the design bar kept rising even though momentum was already shaky?

okay so I’ve watched teams hide behind polish when it’s the only demo-able thing that doesn’t start a fight. The workflow is still dropping packets, but hey, the hover state is buttery.

At one gig the design bar kept creeping up because it was the safest lever when the core flow was messy and nobody wanted to make a call. It felt great for a sprint, then the tickets kept rolling in because the task still took 12 clicks and a prayer.
