Polish matters until it starts replacing progress

I keep running into products where the UI gets noticeably nicer while the core workflow is still kind of shaky. It looks healthy in the demo, but the team is quietly spending momentum on surfaces instead of fixing the thing people actually came for.

Has anyone else seen polish become a kind of procrastination? I’m not ضد polish at all — just suspicious when it starts arriving faster than usefulness.

This is super real, and in games it’s basically “juice” getting shipped while the jump still feels bad. I’ve seen teams polish because it’s the one area you can make look 10x better in a sprint without having to untangle whatever cursed workflow logic is underneath. The tell for me is when the release notes are all spacing, animations, and visual refreshes, but the same 2–3 core tasks still take the same number of clicks or still error out in the same spots. That’s not polish; that’s a new coat of paint on a door that still sticks.
