Portfolio site finally done

Hey everyone,
Wanted to get some feedback about my portfolio site, reintroducing.

For some reason, it seems to be running a bit slower than the cd-rom/local version, and i can’t figure out why.

Thanks in advance for the comments.

It’s quite good, I like it :thumb:

The only thing bothering me is the font, it doesn’t look aliased, so perhaps you need to turn on the aliasing?

Sintax :mu:

yeh, i like it a lot… very slick

my 2 gripes are i dont like the main font + it needs music\ interface sounds

i really like the intro sequence

i don’t really dig the background either, but slick site. especially the menus…

Nice and smooth.

I’m not a fan of the splash screen. Is it even really nessasary? I really liked the index transition but the rest of the site is just plain fades. Not that fades are bad, it’s just a little boring. Perhaps a mouseover for the footer buttons could be in order. The rest of the mouseovers are cool. As others said, sounds and music. The colors are a little blah, but it’s a nice scheme anyway. I like the fonts, I think they work well. Overall I like the site and it’s my favorite thing…SMOOTH! I can’t help but feel though that it could use a little more of something, I’m not sure what but parts of it feel empty.

thanks guys.

sintax: yeah, i’m not sure what the problem with it was, i tried to alias it but it didn’t do much, maybe i should have brought it in as a graphic instead.

billystar: i kind of ran out of time on this thing and i am very picky about sounds, so i didn’t want to just slap some bad sound in there. i think i will eventually end up adding them though, thanks.

mlk: thanks, again, the bg was a last second thing, but i really like it for some reason, i was also thinking of doing a random bg type of thing, kind of like the photos that load in the beginning.

wanyo: the reason the splash screen is there is because my teacher will drill me if i don’t put the requirements up on the site. this is my final portfolio for school so i have to follow standards, but it will probably go as soon as the portfolio show is over (i don’t like it either). the reason for the fades was that i thought i had too many transitions going on. the transition for the main images, then the transition for the sub images (1, 2, 3) and then it would have made another transition for the sections, i thought it might be a bit much.

was the site running a bit slow for you guys or was it not noticeable?

thanks for the crits.

Makes perfect sense. It doesn’t look bad, just a bit overused. Now that I see the other transitions I see more what you mean about perhaps too much for the transitions.

Site runs smooth as butter for me, but I’m running it on a real beast of a machine. Is it all actionscript?

yeah, its pretty much all AS other than a couple of menu tweens, is that why?

No, actionscript should be faster than the regular tweening.
You probably have your fps set to around 60fps. The local flash player or exe version is common to play faster than having it rendered on a web page. I’m not sure why but I assume it has to do with how the browser runs the swf file.

the frame rate is 30, and i can’t figure out either, but if you guys didnt notice it then maybe its just me being picky…

thanks, anyone else have any comments?

real smooth, athough I didn’t quite like the swirly background (a bit distracting), but that’s just me…

  • I like the rollovers and fades muchly :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks nice. Just a couple of thoughts:
The splash seems unbalanced and unnecessary.
the main page (index) looks pretty empty. I like the random graphics that are displayed, but I think it would benefit from some content.
In my opinion, some of the fonts are too big and crowd the boarders. In the work section, the text flows nicely and easily legible, but in the resume section, I think you really need some space between the edge of the text and the boarder, or maybe just shrink the font a bit. Looks really crowded.

The site runs nice and smooth for me, but I always experience a lag between viewing swf files locally vs. through a browser. That’s a mac for you, the browser plugin for mac’s is for sheizer, unfortunatly. :-/

thanks for the comments guys.

monkeyfresh: i’m planning on adding a couple of things to the index menu, as in having those pictures come up originally but then also in the menu allowing for a link to “news” and something else that i had an idea for that i can’t remember for the life of me right now, hah.
