Question about industry rates

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Hi all, I was wondering if you could tell me how much standard industry rates to build an XML driven online catalogue in Flash, with turning page animiation similar to the following:[/SIZE][/FONT]

I’m not interested in those DIY $80 dealies, because my reason for asking is because I’m gong to be angling for a payrise, have already built this project, and I am not a paid as a flash developer and want to use the industry rate as leverage.

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]SWF container:[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]The page turning needs to be activated by buttons in a control panel, as well as clicking the corners of the actual pages[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]There needs to be a zoom in/drag/zoom out function.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]A dynamic text field showing how many pages are in the catalogue needs to be somewhere in the interface. As in a text field which says Page 1 of 34.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]There also needs to be the option for the user to download a PDF file (file specified in XML if possible).[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Requires in built capacity to accommodate an unlimited number of pages.[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Pages/ongonig maintenance:[/SIZE][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Catalogue needs to be updated frequently (every month or so). [/SIZE][/FONT]
[SIZE=2][FONT=Arial]The pages themselves need to be swf with links in each page which link to relevant handsets etc.[/FONT][/SIZE]

I was wondering more about what would a design/development company would charge for such work (for a huge telco by the way), rather than a freelance rate. Thanks

How much the developer’s salary would be, or how much they’d charge the client? :slight_smile:

I guess I’ll just answer - agency rates vary wildly, but it’s a relatively small project and I’d guess it’d probably be in the $1500+ range (and I mean it when I say “+” - it can go way, way up from there.)

Developers usually make between $65-$100k+.

Thanks, I know I worded it badly…

I was going to contact the agency we usually use for such development, get a sneaky quote for such work and then wave it at my boss saying “see how much I saved you…”

I thought I’d ask around here instead.

Yeah, if I had to guess a totally random number I’d say $2,500ish. Agencies aren’t cheap. :slight_smile:

(That doesn’t include design, which makes the number even harder to predict - but an agency would likely charge something like that for development. Again, could be a whole ton more.)
