Sen: You said what I was too lazy to post. I feel the same way. And I have, on occasion, dispensed that swift kick in the face that is deserved upon forcing religion.
Like Sen said, Religion has a way of making bad people good. And for that it should be praised. There are just some people that go too far, and like everything else, those few over-zealous a$sholes ruin everyone else’s fun.
I was Roman Catholic before I denouced my religion, and began to think for myself. I looked at the world around and the scientific evidence that I had access to. I also read a lot, about a lot of different things, and thru my findings I came to believe what I do presently.
To SUM UP: I do not believe in Religion, but I do not feel that it is a bad thing when used properly and responsibly. Like everything else those few f*ck-ups ruin everyone else’s fun.
Cheers,

My beliefs are that God/the emptiness gets very angry when people make topics about him/her/the emptiness. I’ve rarely seen threads like these not turn into a religious debate that then turns into a flame, and then turns into a fight in a parking lot, a murder, and finally Kirupa crying. Don’t make kirupa cry please :).
Cheers,

good point An undeniable hesitation preceded my contribution.
I come from a catholic background… after all, I’m Mexican. However, in the last few years, I’ve become less and less catholic. I would say I’m agnostic right about know.
Because the more and more I know about the world, the more and more I hunger for knowledge, the more I realize that it’s entirely possible that God doesn’t exist.
Why would we believe in God? Because when humanity was still a newbie, we felt natural phenomena were out of our control, and thought some higher beings controlled that.
After we answered some of the questions about the weather, we realized that we can’t control death, and the reasons for it, and we dont know what happens afterwards… so there must be a higher power in control of that…
… but the more we ask, and the more we find out, the domain of reality in which a god could exists becomes less and less…
Of course, you can never prove that God doesnt exists, but the chances of it being true are getting smaller and smaller everyday.
But, I’m a believer of pascal’s wager… you can either choose to be good, or to be bad.
if you’re bad, and god doesn’t exist, it doesnt matter.
if you’re bad, and god DOES exist, you’re screwed
if you’re good, and god doesnt exist, at least you were good…
if you’re good, and god DOES exist, well then you’re cool…
that’s all I have to say…

in freshman history class in college i found out that jesus was a jew. nobody ever told me he was a jew. NOBODY!!! the priests and nuns always told me he was a catholic.
WTF?!?!?!?!
So I don’t buy anything anymore.:pope: :pope:
religion is an excuse for what man can’t explain.
at least that is my take on things. its the people that are dense enough to deny that evolution never occured that are gonna screw the world over…(-: (-: (-:
oops…i mean ‘ever occured’…

There are talks of giants in the bible (where I forget, this was back when I went to church)… supposedly, that reference leads to their justification.
In terms of carbon dating and the process of determining the age of the bones - its relation to the timeline of the bible etc., is beyond me.
No Phil, you are WRONG!
38 and 200!
WAR!
excuse me as I… run far away off into the distance… :run:
you want a war to break loose? here goes…
organized religion will be the cause of the end of the world.
i don’t care what anyone believes. just don’t try to press your beliefs on anyone else, and don’t become a mindless idiot that is scared into believing…
wow…i thought that would most certainly lead to a war…especially after our differences in politics phil…
