I’ve been doing graphic & web design for probably about 4 solid years now and have never been able to get a job because I don’t have a degree. I know it’s not necessary to have a degree but since I have to pay the bills another way, I have had a full-time job and don’t have much time to build up my portfolio.
Recently I looked into a few design schools and found one that has most of the things I’m looking for in a school. I would get my bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications with focus on web design. To get my bachelor’s it would be approximately $57,000.
My question is, does anyone have any advice if I should get my bachelor’s at a 4-year university (cost = approx. $15,000) rather than a design school? I know it depends on your portfolio as well but I was just curious. In some ways I would rather go to the design school because it will take less time and I can focus on design rather than math, english, etc but it is obviously a lot more money.
Any advice? Thanks in advance
