Secret in Siberia (WIP)

Well, I’m trying to aquaint my self with C4D, with only a moderate amount of 3d background (mostly 3ds, some Maya). I started work, and after remembering some of the stuff at phong.com, http://www.phong.com/imagery/art.php, I decided on something industrialish. With that in mind, and memories of the Siberia levels in NOLF2 I got to work (after making a base image with radioactive goop. I’ll show you that later) so anyway, I started by modeling some pipes, and then changed direction (computer ran out of memory, and C4D crashed) so, I had to restart, and I modeled the pipes again, built a wall, and it lead to this:

anyway, I continued with the walls, building kind of a basic square shaped fortress thing. My ideas for this were listed as such:

-60’s
-Industrial/Government building
-Tall
-Secret
-Sibera

add in some sludge, and nolf2 reminders, and now I have this (with a reflective floor, for show)

Well, I decided I didn’t have enough of the secret element, so I added some crows nests and some curious lighting. I moved the pipes and rotated the building, because I don’t want the pipes at the front entrance. That’s where I’ll leave off for tonight.

it´s looking good, I especially like the windows (or holes whatever :P) on the walls and the lights…I also like the tubes but they look out of place now

show us the green goo now

Man thats awesome, i so want to learn to model like that, better go get me a book or something;)

Very nice job man :thumb:

Drop some volumetrics and textures on this puppy and you may be onto something. One thing that stands out is that I think the building edges are too sharp. Not sure if c4d has a rounder tool like LW does but maybe add some geometry to the edges. Or maybe some sub-d weights? Not sure if c4d does that either. Anyway good job man and nice start.

C4d has patches and also the ability to bevel the polys… What could be improved is the reflection of the castle thingy, because the walls are not antialiased on the reflection but are for the real building, then again Im not sure you can improve that…

heh, the reflection is just there for now because I think it looks cool :stuck_out_tongue: I’m going to replace it with 3’ of snow later, and cover everything in a good blanket, going with the siberia I mentioned above.

As for the building edges, they’re not complete, I’m still pretty much roughing out the model. I really can’t draw at all, so everything is in my head and/or on the screen (-: I’ll beat them up later when I texture them.

DDD: Mmmm. volumetrics. I have so much fun with them. Infact, that’s how I achieved the gooey affects (below. The ones on the pipes are temporary)

and for a little more detail, I threw together this sucker.

The crowsnests were starting to make it look more like a jail, which is not what I wanted (entirely). So, I’ve hidden them for time being. I also made the main building taller, made a second addon building, moved the pipes and added 2 ladders. The main problem remaining is a bit of a scale issue with the pipes and ladder vs the buildings, so I’m going to replay the NOLF2 level in question and get a better handle on what I’m doing.

Wow, this is awesome stuff.

What is this C4D? I have never heard of it.

Cinema 4D, www.maxon.net - have a look! (-:

I like the pipe viewport, were you get the glow effect, nice coppertop.
you know the first images was cool but the second one I lost the perspective… With the addition of the crows nest, the image was brought back into focus for me… ‘gotta’ love perspective’… nice scene :thumb:
gp

nice work dude, coming together nicely, pretty cool volumetrics as well. :thumb:

gp, soulty, thanks!

gp: Yeah, it started to lose the look I wanted, so I’ve removed the crowsnests. They’ll probably come back later in one form or another (because it is a secret russian lab thingy :D). And yeah, I really like the glow to. I’ll make the material available for all later. I repeat, it’s really cool when used with a volumetric light.

soulty: I said it before, I’ll say it again “mmmm. volumetrics…”

anyway, to tide you people over, I have supplied you with… DOORS! (these will come back into play, later on in the story)

well, lets see. I added a door frame, and the aforementioned doors. I put in some lighting, but that needs some fine adjustment. I’ll get to work on more windows and things, as well as smokestacks, and other detatched buildings. I’m making rough sketches (even though they look terrible) to help keep my ideas in order. That’s all for tonight, as it was a busy night.

cool doors, but i think the bars look a little too high(depth) and too thin, it looks like you could actually reach the door handle from the bottom gap :!:

PRison BREAKOUT!!!.. :cop: …:run:

I like the doors – not so much the modeling as the perspective it gives the building. It makes it look much larger (don’t get me wrong, the modeling is great too, but it’s the size that gives the render that special something)

Nice work man  :thumb:
