Hello,
I am having a crazy time trying to set up a testing server on my Mac Pro Desktop running 10.4.8.
I am really new to this stuff but am trying to build my first basic php site and until now I have been uploading to the internet server to preview my pages which is a huge pain.
I have been at this on and off for the last week or two trying to figure it out. Every help file I have read has been somewhat confusing and of no help. I managed to enable the Apache webserver on my machine. When I type http://localhost/ or 127.0.0.1 I get the:
“If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful.” page.
When I try to preview one of my pages in a browser from dreamweaver i get:
Not Found
The requested URL /~joey/weddingportfolio.php was not found on this server.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at joeys-computer.local Port 80
I assume I am using the wrong path for my testing server but I have tried everything I can think of. I have tried moving my site into “Documents” under a folder created called “local sites” and follow the set-up info offered by Macromedia. I have tried using it in various other locations as well.
Could someone please help me. I really would like to just preview the site from whatever folder it is in and not have to move it to a specific location. However, I really would be happy just getting to to work. Can someone point me in the proper direction…
Thanks for your time if you require any more info please ask
