A couple of colleagues and I were discussing yesterday the redundancy of having “.com” be in the name for “kirupa.com”.
Back when this site was created in 1999, everything had a .net or a .com as part of the name in order to sound hip and cool. Nowadays, most sites don’t do that any more. There is a good case to be made that this naming scheme is just too retro and outdated.
From my point of view, celebrating retro, pixel art, emoticons, and other outdated things is something that I do personally (in real life) and throw into all of my tutorials. For that very reason, having “.com” is just continuing down that path.
What do you all think?
