Site of the Week (August 14 - August 21)

If you wish to be considered for this week, please read the summary of rules:

  1. Reply by the end of August 21st to be considered for this week’s award.

  2. Include the URL and your email address.

Only the webmaster/creator of the site can submit.

Only one submission per person per week.

Submissions are capped at 10 each week, so don’t wait or hesitate until the last minute. Entries beyond the 10 entry limit will not be eligible for the SOTW for that particular week.

Include a brief synopsis of your site inluding its purpose, or maybe some features you wouldn’t want anyone to miss.

  1. Your site does not have to be full Flash to be eligible. Whilst you still must employ Flash to some extent, we are also looking for the overall design and usability of your site, not just your Flash skills.

  2. While it is understood that sites are perpetually under construction, please submit only complete sites. Do not submit a site that is less than 80% finished.

  3. Submissions must be actual websites with sections and content. Examples of ineligible include (but not limited to) flash games, movies, etc.

  4. There will be a private poll among the moderators and a winner will be announced.

  5. No critiques or feedback is allowed in the submission thread. If you wish a concentrated critique of your site, you may start a thread in Site Check. However, mod critiques will be posted when a winner has been selected.

For more information or questions, please refer to the Official SOTW Rules. Once you have read and understand the rules above, you may submit your site to this thread. Sites not adhering to the rules above will be disqualified and deleted. Submitting your site is an agreement and acceptance of the rules.

Congratulations to **naderslim **for winning this week’s SOTW! You will be featured on the main page of kirupa.com for this week. You may also post a graphical award from this page: http://www.kirupa.com/gallery/awards.htm

Good job to all the participants. One of the valuable aspects of SOTW is to get valuable feedback about your site and get an idea of how well it stands beside some of the best on the web. Mod critiques will be posted shortly.

**The images are stunning. With that said, the white text in some areas is illegible because of the expressive background images. The rollover effects seem a little out-of place. Overall the site is great, but there isn’t much variety.

The space theme is cool, but it could definitely use more animation and some transitions too. You’ve got some sweet planets there in your portfolio. The font is simple but it fits the site very well, good choice. I’m wondering why the gallery is the only section that changes background though. With those nice planets from your portfolio you surely can come up with more space backgrounds ?

The splash page looks a bit too cluttered with all of the awards and text. The site’s colors are very pleasant, but the green seems a little bit out of place. While the default Macromedia scrollbars are very professional, they clash with the green color a bit. The images are really sharp and nice though!

I found the enter link hard to find in the splash page. The first thing that caught my eye was the size of everything - so small ! Especially the news and the links box: barely 2 words fit on one line. Make everything wider and heigher, you’ll have more space and it’ll look better. The gap at the top of the page can easily be avoided by setting the body top border to 0. Any HTML editor can do that in the blink of an eye nowadays. Furthermore a nice minimalistic feel to it and some relaxing music. I don’t think you’ll find many sites out there with classical music playing in the background.

canolde
Wow! The colors and layout are really good. The graphics are very colorful and sharp, but the blocky MM-like scrollbar detracts from the site’s unique, original feel.

I love the feel to the site. You can see that everything has been taken care of in high detail. Smooth transitions, perfect color scheme and music to fit with the subject of the site. The options menu is very nice as well, I liked the different background colors to choose from. Very easy to navigate as well, and smooth animations and sound effects all over to finish it all up. The only thing I could find is that the pixel font of the white containers on the left is blurry sometimes. Congratulations on a job very well done !

Nice site! The colors are very calm and pleasant. Overall, great site! I like sites that give visitors a choice - in your case, the type of animation used.

The choice to put the content on the right kinda surprised me, but definitely not in an unpleasant way. To my feeling, it’s all a bit too blue. A different colored elemtent, like, I don’t know, a yellow flower on the page somewhere would give it a nice touch. Feel free to ignore my crappy design suggestions, as I suck at design lol. Minimalistic transitions and feel, but I like that. It just needs something extra.

Nice site, but the comments are the same as what were posted last week from me

Isn’t that sound at the startpage the sound of a lightsaber in a Jedi Knight game ? You’ve gotta simplify the start page, there’s too much on it. Try getting rid of those horizontal lines. Same goes for the actual site - there’s way too much on the page and too much is going on. I also think that the ahnubis image (isn’t it anubis by the way ?) is too cartoony to be impressive.

salvardor marley
Great site, and the slow effect really accentuates the peaceful feel of the site. The colors and image use is really good.

A nice simplistic site, but I’m afraid it’s a little too simplistic to compete for the title of SOTW. Did you make the music on that site yourself ? Sure sounds good. You’ve got some nice stuff in your portfolio there too. Some more colour would be nice here too.

chrismoore
The splash page is really nice! The main animation opened in a pop-up without warning me. Normally I like surprises, but not ones that pop-up in a tiny window at me. The animation’s colors are really nice, but the animation also looks really blocky with a lot of sharp shapes and different images. The transitions seemed to take too long between sections.

That intro lasted quite a while. Try speeding it up. The framerate appeared to be rather low too, or it’s just my slow machine. I must say that I don’t really like the colour scheme. There’s too much of one colour in it IMO (brown). The red scrollbar is hard to look at too.

Really nice site. The colors and transitions are great. I didn’t like the font you used, and in many areas, the text never wrapped fully. I ended up with a lot of words cut off by the edge of your text boxes.

Ooh, I can clearly see some improvements ! The sections buttons are indeed better placed now. Something seems to be wrong with the navigation because the site restarted once. I’m not sure how I did it, but it restarted after the transition to services. Gotta look into it.

naderslim
Wow! Great site. I like it a lot. The colors and transitions are implemented nicely. The quality of the graphics and text is great also.

Sweet ! I love the smoothness of it all, and it’s just a great overall design. What more can I say ? Oh I know ! Congrats :thumb:

Really nice, simple site. Overall, I really liked your site. While the text rotated 90 degrees is cool, it isn’t easy to read. Also, a sharper border on the content box would be better than the current rope/brush-like outline effect.

It was kinda weird to have to bend to be able to read the contents. I like the small feel it has, but on the other hand it’s a bit too simple I think. Original concept though - I’ve never seen any site like this before.
