Sum-sing for ze noob to zoo?

I’m a total newb to Flash (fading text, motion tweens, the lot) and I JUST TOOK THE LESSONS IN FLASH 5!!! wooo…
Right, so just wanted you people’s opinion on whether I should go about learning more (please tell me WHAT and WHERE) about Flash or, I should leap right ahead and try doing something actually (please give ideas)… erm yeah, see I’m a lost little boy <:}

lol…

well… it depends upon what level you are truely at. You should always try to learn new things in Flash. There are many levels to achieve. You should also try to create projects constantly in order to reinforce what you have already learned.

idea for projects? That’s a tough one. Any ideas I have at this point will probebly be a little tough to figure out for a newb. My suggestion, if you’re feeling uninspired, is to continue to do tutorials for now. As you learn new things, inspiration will come to you naturaly.

well, ive been doing tutorials for at least a year. nothing has inspired me

I dont’ know what to tell you kh3mical. If you honestly have never done a tutorial and then imagined another use for what you’ve just learned besides what the author of the tutorial presented. . .well like I said… I don’t know what to tell you. Creativity is not something which is there or not, it is something that is cultivated through experience and knowledge.
I’d say that your lack of inspiration is something which is internaly driven by you, of which you are probebly not aware. Usually in American society I find such lack of inspiration is due to far too much work in our lives.

I have to agree with upuaut, tutorials are there to teach you a method. It is up to you, and you alone to take the knowledge you learn from a tutorial and implement it into your own creation, and that is where your own creativity comes in.

lets just say…im not an inspirational person.
;)

I don’t believe it… like I said, I believe inspiration and imagination are cultivated things… not something that you are born with.

If you are truely interested in ways of cultivating creativity in yourself, my own methods include:
A) walking among nature - I find that most creations have been worked out by mother nature long before we came up with them. Heck…a bir is the inspriation for velcro. a leaf of some plant inspired the creation of ziplock bags. It’s out there if you just take the time to look.
B) relaxation - if you can’t relax you can’t create inspired work. That’s just a fact. Watching tv is not relaxing.
C) spontanious writing - sit with an empty note pad and just write spur of the moment, whatever comes to mind. Even if it makes no sense at all, or is just doodles, it’s still training your mind to create.
D) Logic puzzles - online and in book stores you can find hundreds, perhaps thousands of logic puzzles. These things will train your mind to be creative with your solutions to obsticals.

I’m sure I use other methods as well, but those are my four main ones.

its to dark to have a walk. i am relaxing while im at my computer. i usually do have a bit of pen and paper with me. and logic puzzles, i do the flash mx car actionscript puzzle at least once a day.

… hey… I’m just offering suggestions. There is no single answer for how to be creative and inspired

thanks anyways :)

Riiight, so now this is a conversation about lack of inspiration? a walk among nature… not exactly what i was looking for there

Oh uh… well… back to the original question…

You can go whichever direction you feel you are prepared for. Everyone learns differently, if you think you are ready to leap in an create something then go for it, but if you feel you don’t have the hang of the basics then you need to practice and experiment more with them to get the feel of how to use them.

If you feel you aren’t prepared there are some basic tutorials here at kirupa.com , and then some at flashkit.com for basic users as well.

heres something else: i dont know too much about AS…

Try the tutorials, and browse through the forums. There is no easy way of learning a new programming language for the first time after all.

well, how did YOU start out? those tutorials and these forums werent here when you started out im sure…

Trial and error…

Lol thats what you said last time I asked you

You expected 2 different answers from the same person with the same question? :trout:

I agree with Kirupa, everything i’ve done was trial and error, if I found it to be too hard for me at the moment I held off on it and worked my way up to it then tackled it again.
