Thanking for answered posts

I have always wondered, if someone answers your post and gives a very good answer which solved the problem, should you write one last “Thank you” post?

Benefits

 • Googlers know that that method solved the problem.
 • The one who helped you get’s a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing he made a difference.
 • It increases your post count (though I find that a downside really. It’s a little wasteful of the site owner’s hard earned database space, and really is a “cheat” post who helped no one, and therefore should not count towards your post count for those who keep track.)

Cons

 • It rebumps a solved topic to the top, meaning it moves other posts with still open problems down the list meaning they are less likely to get help
 • It adds unnecessary information and “clutters” the post from the raw information.

Usually, unless I have anything else to add or ask, I don’t, but might it be a better idea to say thanks? Do I offend people if I don’t so they think I just ran off and ignored all the hard work they put into helping me? I know, I think too much… :puzzle:
