Thanks kirupa crew

thankyou to all the kirupa posters who answered my many (mostly simple) questions over the last month.

my first site is finished. While not perfect, it;s ok considering I’ve only been using flash for a month and knew nothing about it before.

feedback welcome… http://www.switchstudio.net

also like to know the best way to get my site on a couple of search engines. Not after major exposure but links to my name etc…

i’ve read the article in the tutorials but no clear details on where to go.

thanks.http://www.switchstudio.net

Not bad for someone who’s only been using flash for a few months, the site is pretty smooth and well layed out. The only thing that bothered me is why it was sitting at the bottom of the page and there’s an empty space above the layout. Other than that, everything else seems good.

As for your site being searchable on search engines, use meta tags, they look something like this:

<meta name="description" content="description about your site goes here">
<meta name="keywords" content="place some keywords about your site here seperated by comas">

Place those meta tags in the head section of your html document.

thanks…

so place the code in maybe the index.html at the top…
i’m also using a flash detect code in the index.html. this code won’t affect that will it??

thanks again

yeah place it in the head section of the index.html page and no, this code shouldn’t effect the detection script.

hey electron…

put the code in and uploaded…

how does this work???

do engines detect it automatically , how long does it take???

cheers.

I don’t know how long it takes, but it works cause I use it for my site too.

hey victim , nice site, got a little problem with it, when i navigate to your projects and view a image, the menu below the image goes further than the window. so iam missing your left edge and almost a whole button. Love the 3d work you got there!

By the way what tafe did you go to ?

Hey victim,

I love your site. I think it is because it is somewhat unique. Your transitions are good and you’ve been hiding your 3D skills. Where did you get your sound effects?

Victim: Don’t autoscale :scream: Sorry, but I can’t read any of your text. I click the buttons and your transisions look nice, but I can’t read anything because it scaled to fit my monitor.

And here is an article Philbert wrote on submitting to search engines. Maybe it can help.

cheers all,

initially had some probs with different browsers veiwing it, but i tested it on a few different settings and all seemed fine so it stayed online.

lost…
not sure what you mean about atou scale? havn’t had any reports yet of dodgy text… Is it legible, what browser??

Soulty
As above…all seems good where i’ve tested it, maybe your screen res or sumthin. and i went to SIT Enmore.

Anthr…
Sounds r off twisted records I own and just played and messed with em in sound editors.

Autoscale: You have your width and height set to 100% so that when the user resizes their browser the movie resizes to fit.

Given my screen size (800x600) the movie scales down to fit. This makes the text and everything ultra tiny.

yeah ok, Iknow what y mean now…

i was working on my very loose knowledge of how to set it up in DW, so idid for 1024/768 or higher res. I didn’t expect it work properly for 800/600res, I’m by no means a pro, so it will have to do as is.

Thanks for your input lost… i remeber u helpin me out on a fair few issues over the last few weeks.

by the way , iam using 1280 X 1024.

edit: so to me everything should fit

No problem victim, glad I could help

so even if your setting are made for 1024 X 768 i should see the whole site, though there are sections cut off, i have post a screenshot to explain what i mean.

aahh,

yeah I’ve seen that on a full screen veiw, but in a standard browser i havn’t come across it yet.

I have no idea… that doesnt happen on any of the machines i’ve checked. i’m dumbfounded…

what do you think??

might be setting in dreamweaver, maybe even the autoscale issue lost was talking about.

In you publish settings what is your “Window” drop down box set to?

I believe if it is set to “no scale” or something it cuts off anything that is outside the viewable area instead of scaling the movie to fit inside the width and height boundaries.

its set to (default show all)…in both FLa and DW.

it seems fine on every machine ive seen, not sure wats goin on wit Soulty’…

my resolution is 1280 X 1024 and that image was from a maximized Internet Expolorer 6 window.
