Description: The Genetic Code is a script that I’ve been working on for the last couple of days. I came up with the idea while I was on an AP Biology field trip to ISU and we were sitting in one of the molecular biology labs working with the NIH’s BLAST database (read the FAQ on the site for more info about what this is). I got bored so I started writing this script.
It takes in a phrase and converts it to a nucleotide sequence which you can then search for in the genomes of many species (including the human genome).
Credits: The layout was designed by darkmotion (with a bit of guidance by me to get the look/feel I wanted). I wrote the script and converted the layout image into XHTML+CSS.
Tell me what you think of the concept and implementation. And anything else you see that I should change before making the site “live.”
If you find any cool Phrase/Gene combinations, post them up, I’ll be interested to see what you come up with =)
hmmm, well i dont see much of a design here. its very flat with 1 image.
i’d say drop the google ads… they just make it confusing to navigate. there is definitly too much text there and not enough eye candy. dont overdo it with images. but mabye add a small header with some weird genomes or whatever into it and the name of the site. and just make some text nav under it.
I would take that out. Not that there is anything wrong with the sentiment. But modern DNA technology is just reality, it ain’t speculation anymore. Arguing contrary is like arguing that engine won’t run with a mechanic cause the laws of thermodynamics are not in the Bible. Really aint a relevant point of view in the real world.
I’m very dissapointed. I put in “squirrels are the awesomest animal ever” and apparently that sentance is located in the colon of a 5 mo. old house mouse. Great
