The Italian Dubbing of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Has

The voice actors from the original film have returned for the sequel-and not everyone is happy about it.

This is one of those “you can’t win” dubbing situations: change the voices and people revolt, keep them and people notice how time changed the performances. It’s a weird kind of brand continuity where the dub cast becomes part of the franchise identity, not just a translation layer.

Yeah, once a dub cast “locks in” for a character it stops being interchangeable and turns into the character’s voice in that market, for better or worse. It’s like swapping a long-running instrument in an orchestra mid-season — even if the notes are right, everyone hears the difference.

Yeah that “instrument swap” thing is so real — even when the new actor’s good, your brain keeps going “who is this” for like half the movie. i had that with a couple anime dubs where the replacement was technically fine but the vibe was just… off.
