I never saw Cube, but I saw PI
LOL, actually that is true, but it sounds so mathematical… I hate math

Ironically, sounds like PI.
I think you will enjoy PI Phil. I didn’t much, but it is black and white and deals with something sort of a conspiracy on how things are created or something. I saw it a long time ago (when I was like 15/16), so it didn’t catch my interest. I don’t remember much about it though :-\ it was too long ago.
It is an unusual modern film, definitely.
Hrmmmmm, it does sound interesting.
I hated the Cube, sorry Phil.
cool eye candy and nothing of substance.
let me ask you this. If YOU were there Phil, in that room. Would you have overlooked the savant? I doubt it. I know I wouldnt. I know I wouldn’t because I’ve seen Rainman and half a dozen movies or tv shows that have detailed the condition since then. Considering the sales of that movie, I doubt that there’s a person in the US who hasn’t seen it.
The screenwriters on big production films like this one have been doing this for years. Take characters who are supposed to be intelligent (relatively so) and place them in a situation that no intelligent person would be in, and then expect simpathy for the characters from the audience.
So I gave this movie the thumbs down. All eyecandy, zero content. imo
Oh… and I agree about PI. It’s a MUST see movie. So brilliantly writen as to be a instant masterpiece.
it is however, slow at times. It’s not for a person who just likes action films or love stories, or Seinfieldian comedy. Its for someone who wants to sit down and have a director twist their mind around and around again… I guess I could see anyone who likes mathematics, Chess, and or biblical study… would like PI.
…haven’t seen cube either I’m afraid.
But I’ll second(or third?) the motion for PI. I remember getting quite excited when I heard it was coming out having previously nicked the comic from my brother. wonder if they’ll do a film of Preacher…
this movie cube, sounds like the plot of one of my fav writer, Borges. He was up for the Nobes but was beaten by marquez. Borges was a math genius that wrote about infinites and time and realities, he also had a phobia of mirrors and of infintes.
A phobia of mirrors…lol. That is funny, sorry.
Infinites??? IS that like when you have a mirror in front of you and one behind you so they keep mirroring the same thing back and forthing within eachother?
Speaking of unique movies, anyone ever see Memento? That is a really nice movie that kind of messes with your mind until you get the pattern of what is going on.
Cheers!

I´ve seen cube and love it!
I was late at night zaping thru chanels like a mad man, then I stop on this movie (lucky me it was just beginning) for the first 30 minutes I fight the sleep, but in the end I couldn´t sleep at all.
I find the intrigue and mistery unique, just as you do. But on the other side, I have a low expectation and sense of criticism on cable movies. cause most of them suck! Maybe if I have watched it on a theater I would just find it ok.:-\
But the Memento was something that I HAVE to wacth several times, not because I didn´t get it, but because I LOVE IT! Great film, great trama aproach, just GREAT!!!
=)
I loved the movie Cube. The reason, its fairly psychological, and it deals with what would happen with humans if they were confronted with this life or death situation.
I thought it was cool and besides the whole movie was filmed in 2 cubed rooms =) hehe.
And i hear they have Cube 2 in the works. =)
Hopefully if they are smart the title will be Cube^2 (cube squared) hehe i think that’d be a great movie title for the sequel. But im not really sure how they could pull off a sequel, because of the fact that the end of cube left people really kinda wondering what happened etc, and i think to elaborate on that would ruin the wonder and intrique. =)
But that is EXACTLY why they should not make another one.
What makes a movie really great, the fact that you know everything about it, or the fact that there is some mystery that keeps you thinking everytime you see it.
I think to give away who made it and why would make the first movie less effective and do a great disservice to audiences who continually think about the possibilies.
There’s a point to where Hollywood just forgets about cinema as an artform and completly think with their wallets. I Think most of the movies out there are just there to make money and there are very few that has great story telling abilities.
If cube makes another movie and it tells why it was there, they will ruin it and it will not be as great, and will take away from the first movie.
Ok… they aready made the movie.
I just hope that it’s good. Ive seen mixed reviews and i just dont think it did as well as it could have.
Just gonna have to wait till they release it on Video, which is odd since i never saw it in theaters… hmm…
Must not be good if its a strait-to-video type of movie…
But i’ll give it a chance…
Memento was great!!! now that’s a sleeper clasic.
Still can’t believe that people don’t get what I’m saying about the Cube…
i saw previews to the cube. looked pretty awesome but i had a strong feeling that it was one of those movies where the previews look cool but the movie itself is disappointing. memento was pretty cool. not BEST_MOVIE_EVER, but cool.
I saw the Cube a couple years ago. I’m going to have to agree with Phil here - I thought it was good. Not the best movie but it was definitely something I would recommend. I think a sequel, as usual, will only hinder anything that is good about the original.
Memento - also great… as is Mulholland Drive.
